Description
Dear-Natura Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc and Vitamin D, 30-Day Supply — 180 Tablets, Shell Calcium
Overview
Six tablets a day supply calcium 500 mg, magnesium 250 mg, zinc 7 mg and vitamin D 5 µg. 180 tablets, 30 days.
The calcium is shell calcium. Asahi's declaration reads 貝Ca — calcium derived from oyster and scallop shell. That makes molluscs a declarable allergen in the EU and the UK, and it makes the product unsuitable for vegans. Mineral supplements are usually sold on the nutrient names alone, and the source of the calcium is the part that decides who can take them.
The second thing worth knowing before you buy: 250 mg of supplemental magnesium is exactly the European tolerable upper intake level, and the form is magnesium oxide, the form most associated with a laxative effect. If you take magnesium from anywhere else as well, this pack puts you over that figure.

Who Is This For?
- People who want calcium and magnesium in one tablet rather than in two products
- Anyone who has been told their diet is low in calcium and wants a modest, ordinary dose rather than a large one
- People who check sources before buying and want the calcium origin stated rather than implied
- Not for: anyone with a shellfish or mollusc allergy; vegans; anyone with reduced kidney function, in whom magnesium accumulates; anyone already taking a separate magnesium supplement; under-18s; anyone pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding; anyone under medical treatment without asking a doctor first.
How to Use
- Take six tablets a day.
- Split them across the day — two at each meal is the usual pattern, and splitting calcium improves how much of it is absorbed.
- Keep at least two hours between these tablets and any of the following: iron supplements, levothyroxine, tetracycline or quinolone antibiotics, and bisphosphonates. Calcium binds all of them.
- Swallow with water. Taking them with food helps if the magnesium oxide loosens your stool.
- Do not add a separate magnesium supplement without checking the total.
Frequency: Daily, split across meals

貝Ca — shell calcium. The calcium is made from oyster and scallop shell. Molluscs are a declarable allergen in the EU and the UK, so anyone with a shellfish or mollusc allergy should not take this, and it is not a vegan product. Mineral supplements rarely name the source of their calcium, which is exactly why it is named here.
On the magnesium. 250 mg from a supplement is the European tolerable upper intake level for supplemental magnesium — the level set precisely because magnesium salts loosen the bowel above it. Magnesium oxide is the form most likely to do that. Neither fact is a reason not to take the product; both are reasons not to add a second magnesium product on top of it.
Zinc at 7 mg is well under the European upper level of 25 mg. Long-term zinc without copper can lower copper status, and there is no copper in this pack — worth knowing if you take it for months rather than weeks.
Composition and specification as declared by Asahi Group Foods on its official product page.
Cautions
- Contains mollusc-derived calcium. 貝Ca is calcium from oyster and scallop shell. Molluscs are a declarable allergen in the EU and the UK. Do not take this if you have a shellfish or mollusc allergy.
- Magnesium 250 mg is the European upper level for supplements, and the form is magnesium oxide. Loose stools and abdominal cramping are the usual first sign of too much. Do not add a second magnesium product on top of this one.
- Not with reduced kidney function. The kidneys are how magnesium leaves the body; when they work poorly it accumulates. Ask your doctor before taking this if you have any kidney disease.
- 500 mg of calcium blocks other things taken at the same time: iron, levothyroxine, tetracycline and quinolone antibiotics, and bisphosphonates. Leave at least two hours between them.
- Asahi prints three exclusions on the pack itself: do not take this if you are under medical treatment or taking prescribed medicine without asking your doctor first; not for children or anyone under 18; and not while pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Vitamin D 5 µg is a modest amount — 100% of the Japanese reference value, but far below the doses used to correct a deficiency. Do not treat this as your vitamin D supplement if a blood test has shown you are low.
- There is no copper in this pack. Zinc taken for months without copper can lower copper status.
- Do not exceed the stated daily serving. More is not better with this formula.
- Stop taking it and speak to a doctor if you feel unwell after use.
- Store away from direct sunlight, high temperature and humidity, and out of the reach of children.
- This is a food, not a medicine. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease, and it is not a substitute for a varied diet or for medical advice.

FAQ
Where does the calcium come from?
Oyster and scallop shell. Asahi's declaration reads 貝Ca, shell calcium. That makes molluscs a declarable allergen for this product in the EU and the UK, and it means the product is not vegan. It is the first question here because it is the one that decides whether you can take the product at all.
Is 250 mg of magnesium a lot?
It is exactly the European tolerable upper intake level for magnesium taken from supplements, and the form here is magnesium oxide, which is the form most likely to loosen the bowel. On its own the pack is within the limit. Adding any second magnesium product takes you past it, and that is the practical point.
Can I take it with my thyroid tablets or my iron?
Not at the same time. Calcium at 500 mg binds levothyroxine, iron, tetracycline and quinolone antibiotics and bisphosphonates, so leave at least two hours between them. Splitting the six tablets across meals makes that easy.
Is the vitamin D enough to fix a deficiency?
No. 5 µg is 100% of the Japanese reference value and a sensible everyday amount, but it is far below the doses used to correct a diagnosed deficiency. If a blood test has shown you are low, this is not the product for that and you should discuss it with your doctor.
Is it suitable during pregnancy?
No. Asahi prints exclusions for pregnancy, breastfeeding and pregnancy planning on the pack, along with exclusions for under-18s and anyone under medical treatment. Calcium and magnesium in pregnancy are worth discussing with a midwife or doctor, who can advise on a product intended for it.
