Overview

Most Japanese eye drops carry a warning against soft contact lenses, because benzalkonium chloride is absorbed by the lens material. The C Cube line exists to solve exactly that: it is preserved with polyhexanide instead, and the Japanese approval covers use with soft, hard, disposable and colour lenses alike, as well as on bare eyes. Premium Clear is the fullest formula in the line — five actives including vitamin A as retinol palmitate and natural-type vitamin E, at 18 mL rather than the usual 12 or 13.

How to Use

1. Wash and dry your hands. Lenses may stay in — soft, hard, disposable or colour.
2. Tilt your head back and pull the lower lid down gently.
3. Instil one to three drops without letting the nozzle touch the lens, lid or lashes.
4. Blink slowly two or three times to spread the solution over the lens surface.
5. Blot the overflow and close the bottle. If the lens still feels gritty after a minute, remove and check it.

Frequency: One to three drops, five to six times a day.

FAQ

Can I really use this with soft lenses in?

Yes — that is the whole point of the C Cube line. Ordinary Japanese eye drops are preserved with benzalkonium chloride, which soft lens polymer soaks up and then holds against the cornea; that is why those bottles say to remove soft lenses first. Premium Clear uses polyhexanide instead, and the Japanese approval explicitly covers soft, hard, disposable and colour lenses. It works on bare eyes too.

Is this a medicine or a cosmetic?

A medicine. Japanese eye drops of this type are licensed under the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Act and sold in pharmacies, not as cosmetics. That is why this page lists active ingredients with percentages and an approved indication list rather than beauty claims — and why you should check whether your country allows you to import an over-the-counter medicine before you order.

How strong is the cooling sensation?

Premium Clear contains l-menthol, so there is a clear cool feeling on contact, milder than Rohto's dedicated cooling drops. Japanese brands grade this separately from the actives, so a colder drop is not a stronger drop — the menthol only changes how it feels going in. If sharp cold is unpleasant for you, the milder versions in the same family contain the same kind of active ingredients.

Is this product halal or suitable for vegans?

The formula contains sodium chondroitin sulfate, which is manufactured from animal cartilage — commonly shark or bovine. It is therefore not suitable for vegans, and buyers who observe halal rules should treat the source as unverified: the manufacturer does not publish it and the product carries no halal certification. Everything else in the formula is synthetic or mineral.

How long does a bottle last once opened?

Japanese eye-drop inserts generally tell you to finish the bottle within about three months of opening and to discard whatever is left after that, because the preservative system is only validated for that period. Write the date you opened it on the carton. An unopened bottle keeps until the expiry date printed on the box, which is typically two to three years from manufacture.
