Description

DEOCO Body Cleanse Sheets, 36 pcs — Rohto Pharmaceutical, Japan

Overview

A pack of 36 body wipes from the DEOCO line by Rohto Pharmaceutical, bought in Japan and shipped from our shelf in Kobe. The other two formats we stock are DEOCO Medicated Deodorant Roll-On and DEOCO Medicated Deodorant Stick; all three sit in our Japanese body care range.

The odour DEOCO is built around. The Japanese term is 加齢臭 — the shift in body odour that comes with age as the composition of sebum and sweat changes. It is a normal physiological change, not a hygiene failure, and it is not treated by washing harder. A deodorant addresses two separate things: the bacteria that turn sweat into smell, and the smell you leave in their place.

What the lactone in DEOCO actually is. Rohto's own labelling calls it a lactone-containing fragrance. Lactones are a family of sweet, milky-smelling molecules that are more abundant in the skin scent of women in their teens and twenties and become scarcer later. DEOCO adds that smell back as a perfume. It does not make your skin produce lactone again, and nothing in the product acts on the glands that would. DEOCO is sometimes described as "compensating for the lack of production of one's own lactone"; that is not what happens. What you are buying is a deodorant with a deliberately sweet, powdery floral scent.

The previous text also said the product brightens the skin. It does not carry a whitening active of any kind, and we have taken that line out.

Regulatory status, and one distinction worth making. These wipes are a cosmetic (化粧品), not a quasi-drug, and they carry no medicinal active at all. Isopropyl methylphenol — a bactericide — belongs to the roll-on and the stick, not to the wipes, and the three DEOCO products are easy to conflate because they share a name and a scent. The wipes work by wiping: clay and powder take up sebum, and the fragrance is the same one.

Which of the three to pick. The wipes are the only one of the three that physically removes what is already on the skin — sweat and sebum — rather than treating skin you have just washed. That makes them the mid-day and the no-shower option: a gym bag, a long flight, an office in August. They are not a substitute for the roll-on or the stick; used together, you wipe first and apply after.

Key Benefits

  • ✓ Removes sweat and sebum that are already on the skin, which neither the roll-on nor the stick does
  • ✓ White clay and a smoothing powder take up oil, so the skin is dry rather than damp afterwards
  • ✓ Lactone-containing fragrance — the same scent signature as the roll-on and the stick
  • ✓ Vitamin C derivative as a moisturising ingredient
  • ✓ 36 sheets in a resealable pack — a gym bag, a long flight, a desk drawer in summer
  • ✓ A cosmetic, not a medicine, so it carries no bactericide and no restriction on how often you use it
  • ✓ Shipped from our own shelf in Kobe — Japanese domestic packaging, not a re-export

Who Is This For?

  • Anyone who has noticed their body odour change with age and wants a product built for that specifically, rather than a stronger version of a teenage antiperspirant
  • People who want a deodorant that leaves a definite sweet, powdery scent — this is a perfumed product, and that is the point of it
  • Readers who value a declared active and a declared purpose on the package
  • Not for anyone avoiding fragrance, and not for use on broken or freshly shaved skin

How to Use

  1. Open the flap and take one sheet; press the flap back down so the rest do not dry out.
  2. Wipe the underarms, neck, chest and back — wherever sweat has collected.
  3. Let the skin air-dry for a few seconds; do not rub it dry with a towel.
  4. Apply the roll-on or the stick afterwards if you want the bactericidal action as well.
  5. Dispose of the used sheet in the bin. It is not flushable.

Frequency: As often as needed through the day

Full Ingredients

No medicinal active ingredient. These sheets are a cosmetic, and unlike the roll-on and the stick they contain no bactericide and no antiperspirant salt.

Ingredients include: white clay (sebum adsorbent), a smoothing powder, vitamin C derivative (moisturising), lactone-containing fragrance, and the water-based lotion the sheets are soaked in.

Rohto does not publish a full component list in Latin script. The complete Japanese list is printed on the pack; read it there if a specific ingredient matters to you medically. We have deliberately not reconstructed a Latin list from a translation.

Cautions

  • Do not use on skin that is broken, inflamed, sunburnt or freshly shaved or waxed — wait until the skin has settled.
  • Stop using it if redness, itching or stinging appears, and see a doctor if it does not clear.
  • Keep away from the eyes and from mucous membranes. If it gets into the eyes, rinse with plenty of water.
  • This is an external product. Keep it out of the reach of children and do not swallow it.
  • Store away from direct sunlight and heat.
  • It is fragranced. If you react to perfumes, test it on a small area of the forearm first.
  • A persistent, sudden or one-sided change in body odour is worth mentioning to a doctor; no deodorant is a diagnosis.
  • These wipes do not disinfect and do not replace washing. On a hot day they buy you hours, not a shower.

Package Contents

One pack of 36 pre-moistened sheets with a resealable flap. No applicator or case is included.

FAQ

Does DEOCO make my body produce lactone again?

No. The lactone is in the fragrance, so it sits on the skin as a scent. Nothing in the product acts on the glands.

Is this an antiperspirant or a deodorant?

Neither, strictly. The wipes remove sweat and sebum and leave the line's scent behind. If you want the bactericidal or antiperspirant action, that is in the roll-on and the stick.

Will it stain or mark clothing?

Any deodorant can mark fabric if it is applied thickly or if you dress before it dries. Use a thin film and give it a moment. We cannot promise a particular fabric will be unaffected.

Is the scent strong?

It is the most noticeable thing about the product — a sweet, powdery floral. People either buy the line for that scent or find it too much. If you already wear a perfume, expect the two to meet.

How do the three DEOCO products differ?

The roll-on is the wet application with two declared actives, the stick is the dry one you can carry, and the wipes remove what is already on the skin. The other two we stock are DEOCO Medicated Deodorant Roll-On and DEOCO Medicated Deodorant Stick.
