Description
ANESSA Men Multi Control UV Gel SPF50+ PA++++ 40 g
Overview
Anessa launched in 1992 and did not make a men's product for thirty-four years. This is the first: a SPF50+ PA++++ gel developed with MatsukiyoCocokara & Company and sold in Japan only through their stores, released 21 March 2026.
That exclusivity is why it is difficult to find outside Japan — it never enters normal export channels, and it is not stocked by the drugstore chains most re-sellers buy from. We buy it in Japan and ship it from Kobe.
The design problem it solves is specific to how men's skin behaves under a Japanese summer: heavy sebum output meeting a sunscreen film. Shiseido's answer is a two-stage sebum system that absorbs oil and then fixes it in place, so the face stays matte instead of going glassy by lunchtime, with xylitol and wild thyme extract handling the dryness that usually follows aggressive oil control. Key Benefits
- ✓ SPF50+ PA++++ — the highest UVB and UVA ratings issued in Japan, water- and sweat-resistant
- ✓ Two-stage sebum control: excess oil is absorbed and then set, rather than simply blotted
- ✓ Xylitol supports the moisture barrier, so oil control does not leave the tight, dry feel most strong sunscreens do
- ✓ Wild thyme extract to settle skin — useful over a fresh shave
- ✓ Doubles as post-cleanse skincare; Shiseido positions it as a one-step routine after washing
- ✓ Clear herbal scent, rinses off with ordinary face or body wash
- ✓ Non-comedogenic tested and allergy tested
- ✓ Japanese drugstore exclusive, bought in Japan and shipped from Kobe with tracking

Who Is This For?
- Men whose sunscreen complaint is shine rather than burning — the sebum system is the point of the product
- Anyone who wants one step after washing instead of a toner, a lotion and then a sunscreen
- Skin that gets tight and dry after using mattifying products, which is what the xylitol addresses
- Anyone shaving daily — the wild thyme extract and the gel texture sit better over freshly shaved skin than a thick cream
- Not for you if you avoid octinoxate or react to ethanol. Both are in the formula; see the ingredient note.
How to Use
- After cleansing, or after shaving once any redness has settled, dispense an appropriate amount.
- Smooth evenly over face and neck, working it in rather than sitting it on top.
- For the body, dispense a line straight onto the skin and blend in circles with your palm.
- Reapply after heavy sweating or towel-drying, and every two to three hours in strong sun.
- Remove with your regular face or body wash, worked into a lather.
Frequency: Daily after cleansing. Reapply every 2–3 hours during sun exposure. No dedicated remover required.
Full Ingredients
Leading ingredients from the Japanese carton: Water, Diisopropyl Sebacate, Zinc Oxide, Butylene Glycol, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Ethanol, Glycerin, Isodecyl Neopentanoate, Xylitol, Silica.
Two things in that list deserve reading before you buy.
First, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate is octinoxate — one of the two filters restricted in Hawaii and Palau. If you are avoiding it, this is not the product. Second, ethanol is sixth in the list, which is what gives the gel its fast, dry finish and is also the most common cause of stinging on freshly shaved skin. Wait for any razor redness to settle before applying.
The complete list is printed on the carton in Japanese; the entries above are the leading ones. Email support@tsujimotomarket.com if you need the full panel photographed before ordering.
Cautions
- For external use only. Discontinue if redness, itching, or irritation appears.
- Avoid contact with the eyes; rinse with cool water if contact occurs.
- Do not apply to broken, irritated, or sunburned skin.
- Patch-test before first use, especially on sensitive skin.
- Keep out of reach of children. Store away from direct sun, heat, and freezing temperatures.
- Contains ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate (octinoxate) and ethanol.
- Over a fresh shave, wait until any redness settles. Ethanol on razor-irritated skin stings.
- Non-comedogenic tested and allergy tested, which is a manufacturer test result and not a guarantee for every skin.

FAQ
Why is this hard to find outside Japan?
It is sold in Japan only through MatsukiyoCocokara & Company stores. It does not go into the general export channel, which is why most Japanese-beauty retailers abroad do not list it. We buy it in Japan.
Is it really different from the regular Anessa gel, or just packaging?
Different formula. The men's gel is built around a two-stage sebum system — absorb, then set — that the standard line does not have, and it is positioned as a single step after cleansing rather than a final layer over a routine.
Can I use it after shaving?
Yes, but not immediately. The formula contains ethanol, and ethanol on razor-irritated skin stings. Let any redness settle first.
Does it leave a white cast?
No. It is a clear gel, and it contains zinc oxide alongside chemical filters rather than relying on mineral filters alone, so there is no chalkiness.
Is this the Japan-domestic version?
Yes. We buy Anessa through Japanese retail and authorised distribution and ship it from our own stock in Kobe. The box and label are in Japanese; the English text you need is on this page.
