How to Use
- Use it at night, as the very last step after your usual toner, serum and cream.
- Take about a cherry-sized amount — the quantity CEFINE specifies. Less will not form the layer; much more will transfer to your pillow.
- Spread it gently over the whole face, as if cupping it on rather than rubbing it in. You will feel the capsules break.
- Optionally massage: press up from under the cheekbones with your fingertips, in upward movements, as CEFINE describes.
- Leave it on overnight. Do not rinse. Wash your face as usual in the morning.
Frequency: Nightly, or on the nights your skin needs it. It is designed for daily use rather than as a weekly treatment.

Retinyl palmitate is a cosmetic-grade retinoid ester; it is mild as retinoids go, but the standard precaution against topical retinoids in pregnancy and breastfeeding applies to it. Methylparaben and ethylparaben are the preservatives, at the end of the list. Five essential oils — Roman chamomile, rosemary leaf, orange peel, bergamot fruit and lavender — are what scent the product; bergamot and orange peel matter if you are sensitive to citrus oils.

Can I use this if I am pregnant?
Not without asking your doctor or midwife first. The formula contains retinyl palmitate, which is a retinoid — a mild, cosmetic-grade one, but the conventional advice is to avoid topical retinoids during pregnancy and breastfeeding. An earlier version of this page did not mention retinyl palmitate at all, even though it was printed in the ingredient list we published, and that omission is the main reason this page was rewritten.
Do I wash it off in the morning?
You do not rinse the mask itself off as a separate step. It stays on overnight as the last layer of your evening routine, and then you simply wash your face as normal in the morning, which removes whatever is left.
What are the grains I can feel when I spread it?
Capsules. CEFINE suspends two kinds of capsule in the gel, holding actives that are released at the moment of application rather than sitting dissolved in the jar. They are meant to break under your fingers, so the slightly grainy feel on application is the product working, not a sign that it has separated or gone off.
Is it too rich to use with my usual night cream?
It is designed to go on top of a full routine, not instead of one, so a cream underneath is the intended use. If your cream is already very rich, take less gelée rather than skipping either step — the layer only needs to be thin enough to stay put. A cherry-sized amount is what CEFINE specifies for a whole face.
Does it have a strong fragrance?
It is scented, but only with essential oils: Roman chamomile, rosemary leaf, orange peel, bergamot and lavender. CEFINE states the product contains no synthetic fragrance. If you avoid essential oils, or react to citrus oils specifically, this is not a fragrance-free product and the list is above.
