Overview
Kao's Curél line is built around one idea — that sensitive skin is short of ceramide — and the Sebum Trouble Care branch adds a second: that oily skin and dry skin are not opposites, and that the same person often has both. This is the foaming wash from that branch: a quasi-drug (医薬部外品) whose approved active is dipotassium glycyrrhizate, an anti-inflammatory registered to help prevent acne and rough skin.
Kao's claim for the cleansing part is carefully worded and worth keeping in its own terms: it removes the excess sebum that leads to roughness and stickiness while protecting the skin's own ceramide. Protecting, not supplying — there is no ceramide in this formula, and a wash that is rinsed off could not deliver one anyway. It is weakly acidic, fragrance-free, colourant-free, alcohol-free and allergy-tested, and it comes out of the bottle already foamed.

How to Use
- Wet the face with lukewarm water first — foam on dry skin drags.
- Press the pump two or three times into a wet palm. The foam is already made; do not try to work it up further.
- Spread it over the face with the pads of the fingers, without pressing. Give the oily areas a few seconds longer than the dry ones.
- Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water — hot water takes more than the wash does.
- Follow immediately with a toner or emulsion. A cleanser is the step that leaves skin most exposed, whatever it protects while it works.
Frequency: Morning and evening, or evening only if the skin feels tight after two washes. On oily, reactive skin, once a day is often the better answer.

Two entries are worth naming rather than leaving at the end of a list. Sodium laureth sulfate is a sulfate surfactant, present in a product for sensitive skin — that is a normal formulation choice at this position in the list and it is still something a customer avoiding sulfates needs to see. And parabens are declared as preservatives. There is no ceramide in the formula; Kao's ceramide claim is about protecting the skin's own, not adding any.
Cautions
- For external use only. Avoid the eye area; if the product gets into the eyes, rinse at once with water or lukewarm water.
- Do not use on skin with wounds, swelling, eczema, sunburn or any other abnormality.
- Patch test before the first full-face use: apply a little to the inner forearm and leave it 24 hours.
- Stop using it and speak to a dermatologist if redness, swelling, itching, stinging or any other reaction appears during use or afterwards. Continuing can make it worse.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Close the pack after use and store away from direct sunlight, heat and damp.
- Contains sodium laureth sulfate and parabens. Both are declared, both are ordinary in a cleanser, and both are reasons some people will choose something else.
- A quasi-drug is not a medicine. The approved active helps prevent acne and rough skin; it does not treat existing acne.
- Do not use it more than twice a day, and do not use a cloth or a brush with it. Over-washing oily skin is the most common cause of the tightness that follows.
- Avoid the eye area. If foam gets into the eyes, rinse at once with water.

FAQ
Does it contain ceramide?
No, and this is the most misread thing about the Curél line. Kao's claim is that the wash protects the skin's own ceramide while removing excess sebum. Ceramide is in other Curél products that stay on the skin; a foaming wash that is rinsed off in thirty seconds could not deliver one in any case.
Sulfates in a sensitive-skin product?
Sodium laureth sulfate is in the list, low down, alongside two amino-acid-type cleansing agents derived from coconut oil fatty acids that do most of the work. That is a common formulation and not a contradiction, but we are not going to leave it off the page. If you avoid sulfates, this is not your cleanser and that is a legitimate choice.
Is this for acne?
It helps prevent it. The approved active is an anti-inflammatory registered for preventing acne and rough skin, and this is a wash — it removes what is on the surface. Acne that is painful, cystic or leaving marks needs a dermatologist, not a cleanser.
How is it different from the toner in the same line?
The toner stays on and carries allantoin plus zinc oxide and 10-hydroxyundecanoic acid for shine control; this is rinsed off and carries dipotassium glycyrrhizate. They are designed to be used together, morning and evening, and each is sold separately.
