Description

Curél UV Protection Milk SPF50+ PA+++ 60 ml

Overview

Curél is Kao's sensitive-skin brand, and its whole proposition is ceramide. Dry, reactive skin is short of the lipids that hold the barrier together, so every Curél product carries a pseudo-ceramide — Cetyl-PG Hydroxyethyl Palmitamide — designed to stand in for the real thing.

This is that approach applied to a sunscreen. SPF50+ PA+++, filtered by zinc oxide and titanium dioxide with no chemical absorbers, registered in Japan as a 医薬部外品 (quasi-drug) on the strength of its soothing active, stearyl glycyrrhetinate. Fragrance-free and alcohol-free.

One clarification before you buy, because Kao sells two similar milks: this is the UV Protection Milk, not the Day Barrier UV Protection Milk. Both are non-chemical; see the FAQ. Browse the full Japanese sunscreen collection.

Key Benefits

  • ✓ Mineral filters only — zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, no chemical UV absorbers
  • ✓ SPF50+ PA+++ in a milk light enough for daily face use
  • ✓ Pseudo-ceramide (Cetyl-PG Hydroxyethyl Palmitamide) — Curél's barrier-support ingredient, eleventh in the INCI
  • ✓ Quasi-drug active: stearyl glycyrrhetinate, a licorice derivative that helps settle irritated skin
  • ✓ Thujopsis dolabrata and eucalyptus leaf extracts for the redness that follows sun exposure
  • ✓ Fragrance-free and alcohol-free
  • ✓ Full ingredient list published on this page — not a summary
  • ✓ Japan-domestic stock, shipped from Kobe with tracking

Who Is This For?

  • Dry, reactive skin that wants high UV protection without chemical filters
  • Anyone already using Curél cleanser or lotion who wants the ceramide approach through the whole routine
  • Skin that flushes after sun — the stearyl glycyrrhetinate and the two botanical extracts are aimed at exactly that
  • People who need fragrance-free and alcohol-free in one product
  • Worth knowing before you buy: dimethicone is the first ingredient and cyclopentasiloxane the fourth. This is a silicone-based milk. If you avoid silicones, this is not the sunscreen for you.

How to Use

  1. Shake well before use — mineral formulas settle in the tube.
  2. Apply an even, generous layer to the face and any exposed skin as the final step of your morning routine.
  3. Spread smoothly; let it set for a minute before makeup.
  4. Reapply through the day, and after sweating, swimming or towel-drying.
  5. Remove with soap and water or your usual cleanser.

Frequency: Daily. Reapply every 2–3 hours of sun exposure and after water contact.

Full Ingredients

Full ingredient list, verified against INCIdecoder for this exact SKU:

Dimethicone, Water, Zinc Oxide, Cyclopentasiloxane, Titanium Dioxide, PEG-10 Dimethicone, Butylene Glycol, Neopentyl Glycol Dicaprate, Squalane, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Cetyl-PG Hydroxyethyl Palmitamide, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Glycerin, Aluminum Hydroxide, Methicone, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Hydrated Silica, Dextrin Palmitate, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate, Alumina, Silica, Thujopsis Dolabrata Branch Extract, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Extract, Bis-Methoxypropylamido Isodocosane, Tocopherol.

Reading it: the UV filters are zinc oxide (third) and titanium dioxide (fifth), with no chemical absorber anywhere. The barrier ingredient is Cetyl-PG Hydroxyethyl Palmitamide, eleventh — that is Curél's pseudo-ceramide. The quasi-drug active is stearyl glycyrrhetinate. Thujopsis Dolabrata Branch Extract and Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Extract are the soothing botanicals.

And the part a summary would hide: the base is silicone. Dimethicone is the first ingredient and cyclopentasiloxane the fourth. That is what makes it slip on smoothly over dry skin and what keeps the mineral filters from looking chalky — but it is also the reason this is the wrong choice for anyone avoiding silicones.

Cautions

  • For external use only. Discontinue if redness, itching, or irritation appears.
  • Avoid contact with the eyes; rinse with cool water if contact occurs.
  • Do not apply to broken, swollen or irritated skin.
  • Patch-test before first use.
  • Keep out of reach of children. Store away from direct sun and heat.
  • Silicone-based: dimethicone first, cyclopentasiloxane fourth in the INCI.
  • As a Japanese quasi-drug, import may be restricted in some countries — check your local rules.
  • Mineral filters can leave a faint cast on deeper skin tones.

FAQ

Is this the same as Curél Day Barrier UV Protection Milk?

No — Kao sells both and they are easy to confuse. This listing is the UV Protection Milk (SPF50+ PA+++, 60 ml, JAN 4901301274434). Day Barrier is a separate product with its own formulation. Both are non-chemical; if you have used one and want the other, check the JAN on the box.

Can I use it on a baby?

We are not going to claim that. Curél is formulated for sensitive skin including children's skin, and Kao's guidance is that it is suitable for children — but we have not found a Kao source specifically clearing it for infants, so we do not repeat that claim. For a baby, the Anessa Mineral UV Mild Gel N is explicitly cleared and is the safer buy.

What does the pseudo-ceramide actually do?

Cetyl-PG Hydroxyethyl Palmitamide is a synthetic lipid shaped to behave like the skin's own ceramides, which dry and atopic skin is short of. It is Curél's signature ingredient and sits eleventh in this INCI — present in a working amount, not a trace.

What does “medicated” or “quasi-drug” mean?

In Japan a 医薬部外品 sits between a cosmetic and a medicine: it contains an approved active at a set concentration and may make a narrow, pre-approved claim. It is not a medicine and treats nothing. A few countries restrict quasi-drug imports, so check your local rules before ordering.

Is it authentic, and where does it ship from?

Yes. We buy Curél in Japan through retail and authorised distribution and ship it from our own stock in Kobe, with tracking. The box and label are Japanese; the English is on this page.
