The fish oil is Algatrium®, a concentrated tuna oil, and the pack is unusual for declaring DPA separately: most omega-3 supplements state DHA and EPA and stop there. The 60 mg of vitamin E is a high figure for a supplement of this size — worth noting if you are already taking vitamin E elsewhere.
The hydrogen the product is named after is declared last on the ingredient list, in the position Japanese labelling gives to the smallest component by weight, and no amount is printed for it. Declared ingredients: refined fish oil (produced in Spain), starch, black sesame extract powder, sunflower oil, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, glycerin fatty acid ester, vitamin E, potassium citrate, potassium carbonate, flavouring, gellan gum, colourants (titanium oxide, squid ink), antioxidant (vitamin E), silicon dioxide, magnesium sulfate, hydrogen.
Two things in that list that the previous description did not mention. The colourant includes titanium dioxide (E171), which has not been authorised as a food additive in the European Union since 2022 and remains permitted in Japan, where this is made and sold. The other colourant is squid ink — squid is a declared allergen in Japan, and anyone avoiding molluscs should not take this.
And one correction. The old description named "black ginger extract". The declaration is black sesame; the 20 mg of sesamin in the panel above is what it is there for. Sesame is also an allergen.
The capsule shell is gelatin and the manufacturer does not declare its animal source, so we cannot confirm halal status either way.

Cautions
- Contains fish, squid, sesame and gelatin. Squid appears as a colourant, which is not where anyone looks for it. If you avoid molluscs, avoid this.
- Contains titanium dioxide (E171) as part of the colourant. Not authorised as a food additive in the EU since 2022; permitted in Japan, where the product is made.
- Fish oil and vitamin E can both affect blood clotting. If you take an anticoagulant or antiplatelet medicine, or you have surgery scheduled, ask your doctor before taking this.
- 60 mg of vitamin E a day is substantial. Count it against anything else you take.
- If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, under medical care or taking prescribed medication, speak to your doctor before use.

FAQ
What does the hydrogen actually do?
We are not going to tell you, because DHC does not say either. Hydrogen is declared last on the ingredient list, no amount is printed for it, and it carries no function claim in Japan. The previous description on this page told you hydrogen was "624 times superior to vitamin C" — that figure has no source we could find, and it is gone.
Why does the colourant contain squid ink?
Squid ink is used as a food colourant in Japan and it is what gives these capsules their appearance. It matters here because squid is a declared allergen: someone avoiding molluscs would never think to check the colourant of a fish oil capsule, so we have put it in Product Details and in Cautions rather than leaving it in the ingredient list alone.
Is 510 mg of DHA a lot?
It is a solid mid-range figure. Concentrated fish oils run from roughly 200 mg to over 1,000 mg of DHA per serving, so this sits comfortably in the middle — and unlike most, it also tells you the DPA.
Can I take it with blood-thinning medication?
Ask your doctor first. Both the fish oil and the 60 mg of vitamin E can affect clotting, and this is exactly the combination where a food and a prescription need to be discussed together.
Is it halal?
No, or at least not confirmably. The capsule shell is gelatin and DHC does not declare its animal source. The product also contains squid, which is a separate question of preference rather than of permissibility.
