Description

Direia Stem Repair Cleansing 150 ml — One-Step Makeup Remover and Face Wash

Overview

A one-step Japanese cleanser: it removes makeup and washes the face in the same pass, so it takes the place of two products rather than sitting between them. 150 ml, from Direia. That property is the reason to buy it, and it is what this page is mostly about.

Three things our earlier description claimed that this page does not

It said the product integrates "advanced stem cell growth agents for skin regeneration" and that these "promote skin regeneration and rejuvenation". This is a 化粧品 — a cosmetic — and a cosmetic sold in Japan may not claim to regenerate skin. There is a second problem with the claim that has nothing to do with regulation: this is a rinse-off product. It is on the face for well under a minute and then goes down the drain. Whatever the ingredient in question is, a cleanser is the formulation least able to do anything of the kind.

It described the product as "cutting-edge cosmeceutical technology". Cosmeceutical has no legal meaning in Japan. A product is 化粧品, 医薬部外品 or 医薬品, and this is the first.

It headlined "Special Electrolyzed Water with negative ions … comprising 75 % of the formula". We could find no Direia publication of a 75 % figure, and "negative ions" is not an ingredient description that maps onto any INCI name. Neither the figure nor the mechanism is repeated here.

More cleansers and face products are in Face Care.

Key Benefits

  • Removes makeup and cleanses in one step — the single property that actually changes a routine, and the reason this product exists
  • 150 ml, a normal-sized bottle rather than a sample
  • Saves a step in the evening without the tightness a strong double cleanse can leave
  • This page says what it will not take off — waterproof mascara and long-wear lip tint still want a dedicated remover
  • JAN printed on the page: 4562499740356, so you can verify the product you receive
  • No invented ingredient list — Direia does not publish a full INCI for this SKU and this page says so instead of assembling one

Who Is This For?

  • People who wear light to medium makeup and want one bottle at the sink instead of two — this is the routine a one-step cleanser genuinely improves.
  • Anyone who skips the second cleanse when they are tired, and would rather the first one did the whole job properly.
  • People who travel and do not want to pack an oil and a foam.
  • Think twice if: you wear waterproof mascara, long-wear lip tint or heavy base every day — a one-step cleanser is the wrong tool for those and you will end up rubbing. Also if you need a full INCI before buying, since Direia does not publish one for this SKU.

How to Use

  1. Start with dry hands and a dry face. Water on the hands dilutes a cleansing product before it has done its work.
  2. Take two to three pumps and spread it over the face, avoiding the eye area to begin with.
  3. Massage gently for 30 to 45 seconds. Longer is not better on a rinse-off cleanser, and firm rubbing is what causes irritation, not the product.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Hot water strips more than the cleanser does, and cold water leaves an oily film behind.
  5. For everyday makeup a second cleanse is not needed. If you have worn a heavy base, or if the skin still feels coated, follow with a gentle foam.

Frequency: Once a day, in the evening. A one-step cleanser is not a morning product for most skins.

Full Ingredients

Direia does not publish a full INCI list for this SKU on any page reachable to us, and no retailer reproduces one. We are not going to assemble a plausible list from what cleansers usually contain. This is the same decision as the Hada Labo UV card of 11.09: where the maker does not publish, we say so.

What Direia's material does say is that the base is an electrolysed water. We repeat that and nothing further about it — not the "75 % of the formula" figure from our old page, which we could not source, and not the "negative ions" mechanism, which does not correspond to any INCI entry.

If you have a known cosmetic allergy, please ask us before ordering and we will photograph the ingredient panel on the bottle. At ¥7,500 this is the most expensive cleanser in our catalogue and the one most likely to be researched before purchase, and you are entitled to the panel before you pay.

Cautions

  • Patch-test before first use. Our earlier description said this product is "suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin". On a cleanser whose full ingredient list is not published, a flat sensitive-skin claim does real work in a purchase decision and should not have been there.
  • External use only. Keep out of the eyes; if it gets in, rinse at once with plenty of lukewarm water.
  • Do not use on broken, sunburned or actively irritated skin.
  • Rinse with lukewarm water, not hot.
  • Do not massage for longer than about a minute or rub firmly — mechanical friction, not the formula, is the usual cause of irritation from a cleanser.
  • It is not a dedicated remover for waterproof mascara or long-wear lip products. Use a proper eye and lip remover for those rather than working harder with this.
  • Discontinue if redness, itching, stinging or peeling appears, and seek advice if it does not settle.
  • Keep out of reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight and high temperature.
  • Close the cap after use and keep water out of the bottle.

FAQ

Does it contain stem cells, and do they repair skin?

Our previous description said it integrates "stem cell growth agents" that "promote skin regeneration and rejuvenation". A cosmetic in Japan may not claim to regenerate skin, and separately: this is a rinse-off cleanser, on the face for under a minute. Whatever the ingredient, the format is the one least able to do anything of that kind. The claim has been removed and we have not replaced it with a softer version of itself.

Do I still need a second cleanse?

For everyday makeup, no — that is the point of a one-step product. After a heavy base, or if your skin still feels coated after rinsing, follow with a gentle foam. Judge it by how the skin feels, not by a rule.

Will it take off waterproof mascara?

Not reliably, and please do not try to make it. Waterproof mascara and long-wear lip tint want a dedicated bi-phase remover. Working harder with a face cleanser around the eyes is how people damage that skin.

What is the ingredient list?

Direia does not publish a full INCI for this SKU and no retailer reproduces one, so this page does not print a list. We would rather say that than compose something plausible. If you need the panel before ordering, ask us and we will photograph the bottle.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?

We do not know, and we are not going to say it is. Our old page said "suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin" — a flat claim on a product with an unpublished composition. Patch-test on the inner forearm or behind the ear first, as you would with any new cleanser.
