iPS stands for induced pluripotent stem cell, a laboratory technique for reprogramming ordinary adult cells into a stem-cell-like state. It won a Nobel Prize in 2012 and it is genuinely significant in medical research. In a cosmetic context, it describes the research approach a brand uses to develop or select its actives. It does not mean there are living cells in the jar, and no cosmetic contains them.
