Description

Fine Japan Nattokinase — 4000 FU, 240 Tablets / 30 Days

Overview

Fine Japan sells this as 納豆キナーゼ, item a-000455: 240 tablets of 250 mg, eight a day, thirty days to a bottle. Nattokinase is the enzyme associated with the sticky strands of natto, and Fine Japan adds a natto bacterium culture extract powder so that the daily eight tablets carry 4000 FU of nattokinase activity, measured at the time of manufacture. Alongside it sit coenzyme Q10, quercetin, garlic extract powder and six vitamins, all with published figures, all of which are in the table below.

This product is registered in Japan as a 栄養機能食品 for vitamin B1 — a Food with Nutrient Function Claims. That category permits exactly one function statement, the prescribed sentence about vitamin B1, and nothing else. This page previously made six claims about blood flow, blood viscosity, blood pressure, cholesterol and homocysteine, and promised results in four to eight weeks. Fine Japan makes none of those claims and neither do we now. See our other Japanese supplements.

Key Benefits

  • ✓ 4000 FU of nattokinase activity in the daily eight tablets, stated by Fine Japan as measured at manufacture
  • ✓ Coenzyme Q10 10 mg, quercetin 33 mg and garlic extract powder 100 mg per day — figures Fine Japan publishes, now printed here
  • ✓ Six vitamins with declared amounts: E 6.3 mg, B1 1.2 mg, B2 1.4 mg, B6 1.3 mg, B12 2.4 µg and folic acid 240 µg
  • ✓ 240 tablets of 250 mg, 60 g net — a full thirty days at the stated eight a day
  • ✓ An odourless tablet for people who do not want to eat natto daily; soy is the only declared allergen
  • ✓ Japanese-market bottle (JAN 4976652002784), dispatched from our Kobe warehouse with tracking

Who Is This For?

  • Someone who wants a nattokinase product with the activity figure and the measurement point both stated, rather than a number on its own
  • People who dislike natto's smell and texture but want the enzyme associated with it in a tablet
  • Anyone comparing supplements on published amounts — this one declares CoQ10, quercetin, garlic extract and six vitamins by weight
  • Buyers who want vitamin B1 in a defined Japanese food category rather than as an unlabelled extra
  • Not for you if: you take anticoagulant or antiplatelet medication and have not spoken to your doctor, you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you have a soy allergy, or eight tablets a day is more than you want to swallow

How to Use

  1. Take eight tablets a day. That is Fine Japan's stated amount and the basis of the 240-tablet bottle.
  2. Swallow them with water or lukewarm water.
  3. Eight at once is a lot, so splitting them across two points in the day is a reasonable way to take them; Fine Japan states the daily amount rather than a schedule.
  4. If the product does not seem to suit you, Fine Japan's own instruction is to reduce the amount or stop taking it.
  5. Close the bottle after each use, keep it somewhere cool, and finish it reasonably promptly once opened.

Frequency: Eight tablets daily. One 240-tablet bottle is a 30-day course at that amount.

Ingredients and Nutrition Panel

Ingredients, in Fine Japan's declared order: starch hydrolysate (produced in Japan), natto bacterium culture extract powder, garlic extract powder, coenzyme Q10 / sucrose fatty acid esters, quercetin, vitamin E, fine silicon dioxide, vitamin B12, vitamin B6, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, folic acid. Contains soy.

The one function statement this product is permitted to make. As a 栄養機能食品 registered for vitamin B1, Japanese labelling rules allow exactly one sentence: vitamin B1 is a nutrient that helps produce energy from carbohydrates and helps maintain the health of skin and mucous membranes. Nothing else on this page is a claim about what the product does, because nothing else is permitted and Fine Japan asserts nothing else.

Cautions

  • This is a food supplement, not a medicine. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease, and no effect on the heart, the circulation, blood pressure or cholesterol is claimed here.
  • Do not exceed the stated daily amount of eight tablets.
  • Fine Japan's own instruction: if the product does not seem to suit you, reduce the amount you take or stop taking it.
  • Nattokinase is associated with effects on blood clotting. If you take anticoagulant or antiplatelet medication — warfarin, aspirin or any other — speak to your doctor before starting, and tell them what you are taking. This caution is ours, not the maker's: Fine Japan does not print one.
  • Tell your doctor or surgeon you are taking it before any planned surgery or dental extraction.
  • Fine Japan does not publish a vitamin K figure for this product. If you are on warfarin, vitamin K intake is something your clinic monitors, so ask them rather than assuming either way.
  • We do not recommend it during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for children, without medical advice.
  • Contains soy — the only allergen declared by Fine Japan. Do not take it if you are allergic to soy.
  • Taste and colour can vary between production lots. Fine Japan notes this does not affect quality.
  • Store in a cool place away from heat, humidity and direct sunlight, keep out of reach of children, and finish the bottle reasonably promptly after opening.

FAQ

Why does this page no longer say it supports circulation or heart health?

Because Fine Japan does not say it, and Japanese labelling rules do not allow it. The product is a 栄養機能食品 registered for vitamin B1, which permits one prescribed sentence about vitamin B1 and nothing more. This page previously claimed effects on blood flow, blood viscosity, blood pressure, cholesterol and homocysteine, and told you to expect results in four to eight weeks. None of that came from the maker. It has been removed and replaced with the figures Fine Japan actually publishes.

What does 4000 FU mean, and why does it say 'at manufacture'?

FU — fibrin units — is the standard measure of nattokinase enzyme activity. Fine Japan states 4000 FU per eight tablets and adds 製造時, at the time of manufacture. That qualifier is on the maker's own page and it matters: enzyme activity is measured when the batch is made, not on the day you open the bottle. Our page carried the number without the condition; both are now here.

Does it contain red yeast rice or monacolin?

No. Some reseller listings for this barcode advertise red yeast rice extract with monacolin, and onion skin extract. Fine Japan's own ingredient list for item a-000455 contains neither. We checked because it matters — monacolin is chemically the same molecule as a statin, the EU restricts it, and it would have required an interaction warning. This product does not contain it.

I take warfarin. Can I take this?

Ask your doctor, and do not start before you have. Nattokinase is associated with effects on clotting, and natto is also a well-known concern in warfarin monitoring because of its vitamin K. Fine Japan prints no warning of either kind and publishes no vitamin K figure for this product, so there is nothing on the label for you to rely on. Tell your clinic what it is and let them decide.

Eight tablets a day seems like a lot. Can I take fewer?

Eight is the amount the 4000 FU figure and the thirty-day pack are both calculated on, so fewer means proportionally less of everything in the table. Fine Japan's only instruction in the other direction is that if the product does not suit you, you should reduce the amount or stop. Tablets are 250 mg each, so they are small; splitting the eight across two points in the day is a common way to take them.
