Description

Gatsby Facial Wash Moisture Foam, 130 g

Overview

A note before anything else: this is a foam, not a scrub. The web address of this page says "scrub", which is a mistake from when the product was first added to our catalogue, and it has been misleading buyers ever since. There are no abrasive particles in this product. Gatsby's face-wash range does include scrubs; this is not one of them.

What it is: Mandom's Gatsby moisture-type face wash, 130 g, with a citrus scent. Gatsby's own copy puts the moisturising content of the formula at 30%, hyaluronic acid among it, and positions it for daily washing on skin that reacts after shaving — which is the specific case a plain foaming wash tends to handle badly.

More of the shelf is in Japanese Facial Cleanser. The rest of the men's range is in Products for Men, and the shampoos in Japanese Shampoo.

Key Benefits

  • ✓ A moisture-type foam, not an abrasive scrub — whatever the URL says
  • ✓ Gatsby puts the moisturising content of the formula at 30%, hyaluronic acid included
  • ✓ Aimed at the post-shave case, where a stripping wash makes the sting worse
  • ✓ Generous, stable lather from a small amount
  • ✓ Fresh citrus scent that rinses away instead of sitting on the skin
  • ✓ 130 g tube — a size that lasts a season of daily washing
  • ✓ A cosmetic wash: no medicated claim is made here because none was verified

Who Is This For?

  • Men whose face stings or flakes for an hour after shaving, and who suspect the face wash is part of it
  • Anyone who wants a men's wash that is not built around a menthol blast
  • People with combination skin who need the oil handled without the tight feeling afterwards
  • Anyone who came here looking for a scrub — read the first paragraph before ordering; this is not one
  • Not for someone who needs a medicated acne wash: no active ingredient is declared here

How to Use

  1. Wet the face with lukewarm water — hot water strips more than the wash does.
  2. Take about 2 cm of foam and lather it in wet palms until it holds its shape.
  3. Roll the lather over the face with the fingertips. No pressure, and no scrubbing: there is nothing abrasive here to scrub with.
  4. Rinse thoroughly, then shave or moisturise. If you shave afterwards, do it while the skin is still soft.

Frequency: Once or twice a day; before shaving rather than after, when the skin is already open

Full Ingredients

Gatsby's product copy for this foam names hyaluronic acid among the moisturising components and states that moisturising components make up 30% of the formula. That is the maker's own figure, quoted as such; we have not measured anything and we are not restating it as our own claim.

We could not verify a full INCI list from a Mandom source, so none is printed here. The complete declaration is on the tube. If a specific ingredient decides the purchase for you, ask us before ordering and we will read it off the pack.

Cautions

  • Avoid the eye area while lathering
  • Avoid contact with the eyes; if the product gets in, rinse immediately with plenty of water
  • Do not use on broken, sunburnt or actively irritated skin
  • Stop using it if redness, itching, swelling or stinging appears, and see a doctor if it does not settle
  • Try a small amount on the inner forearm before the first full use, especially if your skin reacts easily
  • This is not a medicine and it does not treat a diagnosed condition. If a skin problem persists or worsens, see a doctor rather than continuing with a cosmetic
  • Rinse thoroughly at the hairline and jaw — residue left there is a common and avoidable cause of breakouts
  • Store away from direct sunlight and heat — a car in summer is the usual way these products are ruined
  • Keep out of reach of children

FAQ

The URL says scrub. Is there any exfoliant in this?

No. There are no scrub beads and no abrasive of any kind in this product. The word in the URL is an error made when the item was first listed, and we have left the address alone rather than break links people have already shared — but the title, the description and this answer all say the same thing: it is a moisture foam.

Does it help with the burning after shaving?

That is the case Gatsby built it for, and the moisturising content is the reason. What it will not do is treat razor burn that has already happened — for that you want an after-shave product or, if it is persistent, a change of blade and technique. Washing before shaving rather than after is worth trying on its own.

Is it strong enough for oily skin?

It is a foaming wash, so yes for daily sebum. If your skin is very oily and you are also getting breakouts, a medicated wash with a declared active is a different category, and this is not one — no active is declared on this product.

Does it contain menthol?

Nothing we found says so, and the scent is described as citrus rather than cooling. We have not verified a full ingredient list, so if a menthol sensitivity is the reason you are asking, write to us and we will read the pack before you order.

Is it the Japanese domestic version?

Yes — the Japanese retail tube with Japanese pack text, bought inside the Japanese supply chain and shipped from Kobe.
