Description

COOLOOP Cooling Neck Ring — Wide, 28 °C PCM

Overview

The COOLOOP neck ring is a loop of phase-change material that you wear on the back of the neck. Below 28 °C the PCM inside sets solid on its own — no freezer needed, though a freezer is faster — and as it melts it holds itself near 28 °C instead of climbing with the air around it. Cogit's figure is about three hours near 28 °C in a 36 °C environment.

This is the Wide version: 14 × 16 cm overall, 4.7 cm thick, with a 4.5 cm band across the back of the neck rather than the thin cord of the standard model. The coolant is split into twelve separate packs, which is why the ring still bends open when frozen. It is not ice and not a water gel, so it does not sweat and your collar stays dry.

Key Benefits

  • ✓ Sets solid on its own below 28 °C — a freezer is faster, not required
  • ✓ About 3 hours near 28 °C in a 36 °C environment, the maker’s own figure
  • ✓ No condensation at all, so nothing drips onto your collar
  • ✓ 4.5 cm band across the nape, far more contact than the standard thin cord
  • ✓ Coolant split into 12 packs, so the frozen ring still opens to go on
  • ✓ No battery, no charging, no moving parts, nothing to run out
  • ✓ Re-freezes in 15–20 minutes and can be reused indefinitely
  • ✓ Bought in Japan and dispatched from our own shop in Kobe

Who Is This For?

  • Anyone who commutes, walks or works outdoors in a hot summer and wants something quiet and passive
  • People who dislike ice packs because of the wet collar — there is no condensation here
  • Anyone with a neck of 32–40 cm; the ring is rigid and does not stretch to fit
  • People who want cooling without a fan motor, a battery or a cable
  • Not a medical device, not protection against heat illness, and not a substitute for shade and fluids
  • Not for small children — the inner circumference is adult-sized

How to Use

  1. Leave the ring somewhere below 28 °C, or 15–20 minutes in the fridge or freezer, or about 20 minutes in ice water.
  2. Check it has set solid. A partly melted ring gives a much shorter run.
  3. Open the ring, place it around the neck with the ends forward, and let it spring back.
  4. When it stops feeling cool, the filling has fully melted. Set it again.
  5. Wipe with a damp cloth to clean. Do not put it in a microwave, boiling water or a dishwasher.

Frequency: As often as you like. The PCM is not consumed by cycling and does not wear out with use.

Full Ingredients

Materials: TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) outer body; PCM — octadecane, the phase-change filling; polycarbonate.

Octadecane is a straight-chain alkane with a melting point around 28 °C. That single number is the whole product: at 28 °C it changes state, and while it is changing state it absorbs heat without getting warmer. It is sealed inside the ring and is not intended to be opened.

No fragrance, no batteries, no electronics, no refrigerant gas. Nothing in the ring is consumed by use, so it can be re-frozen indefinitely.

Cautions

  • This is a comfort accessory, not a medical device. It does not treat or prevent heat illness.
  • If you feel dizzy, sick, confused or stop sweating in the heat, get out of the heat and seek medical help. A cooling ring is not a response to those symptoms.
  • Do not use it on broken, irritated or sunburnt skin.
  • Do not sleep in it, and do not leave it on a young child unsupervised.
  • If the outer shell splits, stop using it. The filling is a waxy alkane and is not intended for skin contact.
  • Do not heat it in a microwave or in boiling water, and keep it away from open flame.
  • Prolonged contact with cold can irritate sensitive skin; wear it over a thin collar if needed.
  • Keep the packaging film away from children.

FAQ

Does it prevent heat stroke?

No, and we will not say that it does. It is a plastic ring that keeps the skin at the back of your neck near 28 °C, which is pleasant. Heat illness is a medical emergency and is prevented by shade, rest, fluids and getting out of the heat — not by an accessory. Use the ring as comfort, not as protection.

How long does it stay cold, really?

Cogit's figure is about three hours near 28 °C in a 36 °C environment. In direct sun, moving, at 40 °C, expect less; sitting indoors at 30 °C, more. It stops feeling cool once the whole filling has melted, and then it needs re-setting.

How do I re-freeze it, and how long does that take?

15–20 minutes in a freezer or refrigerator, or about 20 minutes in ice water. If the ambient temperature is below 28 °C it will set on its own with no equipment at all — that is the point of a 28 °C phase-change material.

Will it fit me?

The inner circumference is 35 cm, intended for a neck of 32–40 cm. It is a stiff ring, not an elastic band: it opens to go on and springs back. If your neck measures outside that range, this is not the size for you.

Does it drip or make my clothes wet?

No. The cooling comes from a wax-like alkane sealed inside the ring, not from ice or a water gel, so there is nothing to condense on the surface and nothing to leak.
