Four claims you will see elsewhere, and will not see here. That it contains eight forms of hyaluronic acid: Rohto states seven, and of the three usually listed separately — "Super HA, Nano HA and Acetyl HA" — only two are distinct, because Super HA is acetylated hyaluronate. That it is free from mineral oil: mineral oil is the fourth ingredient on the label. And "24-hour hydration" and "best-selling" status, neither of which has a source.
What is actually in it. Seven hyaluronic acid forms of different molecular weight and behaviour — one crosslinked, one fermented, one designed to adhere to the skin surface — plus sacran, a polysaccharide from a Japanese freshwater alga with a very high water-binding capacity, and allantoin. The occlusive side is carried by mineral oil, dimethicone and cetanol, which is why it seals well and also why it is not the right choice for anyone avoiding silicones or mineral oil.
Cosmetic, not quasi-drug. Unlike the Shirojun line this carries no registered active and makes no approved efficacy claim. It is a moisturiser, and a well-built one.

How to Use
- Cleanse, apply your toner and let it settle.
- Dispense two or three pumps into the palm.
- Warm between the hands and press over face and neck while the skin is still slightly damp.
- Pat until absorbed; do not rub.
- In the morning, follow with sunscreen.

A note on mineral oil. This emulsion is often described as free from it. Mineral oil is the fourth ingredient on the label. It is a well-tolerated, non-comedogenic occlusive and there is nothing wrong with it being there — but a mineral-oil-free claim is simply not true of this product.

FAQ
Seven types of hyaluronic acid — does the number mean anything?
Partly. Molecules of different size sit at different depths, and a crosslinked or skin-adhering form behaves differently from plain sodium hyaluronate, so a mix does more than a single form. But the count itself is marketing: seven well-chosen forms and four well-chosen forms would perform much the same. We say seven because Rohto says seven, not because eight would have been better.
Why does a hydrating product contain mineral oil?
Because hyaluronic acid holds water and mineral oil stops it evaporating; without an occlusive, a humectant on the surface of dry skin can end up drawing water out of it. Mineral oil in cosmetic grade is inert, non-comedogenic and one of the best-tolerated occlusives there is. The problem is never its presence; it is a listing claiming it is absent.
What is sacran?
A polysaccharide extracted from Aphanothece sacrum, a freshwater alga found in Japan. It binds a very large amount of water for its mass and forms a film on the skin. It is the ingredient that distinguishes the Premium line from the standard Gokujun.
Is the Premium worth it over the regular Gokujun milk?
If your skin is comfortable on the standard version, no. The Premium adds hyaluronic acid forms, sacran and a heavier occlusive load — that matters for dry, dehydrated or winter skin and is largely wasted on skin that is already comfortable.
Does it work under sunscreen and makeup?
Yes, but give it a minute. It is a richer emulsion than the standard Gokujun; applied and immediately covered it can pill under a silicone-heavy sunscreen. Let it settle before the next layer.
