Description
Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Lotion, 400 ml Pump
Overview
The 400 ml pump bottle of the lotion that made Hada Labo a household name in Japan. Same formula as the small bottle, roughly twice the volume, in a pump that dispenses a measured amount without contaminating the rest of the bottle. It is a hydrating step, not a cleansing toner — nothing is wiped off afterwards. See also our Japanese lotions and toners.
Key Benefits

- ✓ Fragrance-free, colorant-free, mineral-oil-free, alcohol-free, paraben-free
- ✓ Slightly viscous texture that layers without pilling
- ✓ Japanese domestic version from Rohto Pharmaceutical, shipped from Kobe

Who Is This For?
- Anyone who already uses the small Gokujyun bottle and goes through it quickly
- Households sharing one lotion, where a pump is more hygienic than a splash bottle
- People who layer lotion two or three times and want the volume to justify it
- Skin that reads as dehydrated rather than oily or reactive
- Not the right pick if you want an active — this is hydration only, with no acid, retinoid or brightening agent
How to Use
- Cleanse and leave the skin slightly damp
- Press the pump two or three times into a clean palm
- Press the lotion into the face and neck, working outwards from the centre
- Repeat on drier areas if you want a second layer
- Follow with an emulsion or cream while the skin still feels damp
Frequency: Morning and evening

Cautions
- Patch test on the inner forearm before first use, especially if your skin is reactive.
- Discontinue use and consult a doctor if redness, itching, swelling or persistent stinging occurs.
- Avoid contact with the eyes. If the product enters the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
- Do not apply to broken, sunburned or actively inflamed skin.
- Keep out of reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight and high temperatures.
- This is a moisturising product with no sun filters — it does not protect skin from UV. Apply sunscreen separately in the morning.
- Contains dilauroyl glutamate (phytosteryl/octyldodecyl) — a plant-sterol emollient that is commonly soy-derived. Manufacturers do not always declare the botanical source, so if you have a diagnosed soy allergy, patch test and treat the source as unconfirmed.
- A 400 ml bottle takes a long time to finish. Keep the pump closed, store it away from the bath's steam and heat, and do not decant into an unwashed container.
- Rohto states the product has been patch-tested with the cooperation of people with sensitive skin. That is a manufacturer test on a panel, not a guarantee that no one will react — do your own patch test first.

FAQ
Is the 400 ml pump the same formula as the 170 ml bottle?
Rohto sells the pump bottle as the same Gokujyun hyaluronic lotion in a larger, differently packaged format. Compare the ingredient list on this page with the one on your current bottle before assuming they match exactly — Rohto revises formulas periodically and the refill and pump versions have carried small differences in the past.
Why does my skin feel dry again an hour after using it?
Hyaluronic acid is a humectant — it holds water. That is a real and useful property, but it is worth knowing how it behaves: it draws on the moisture already in the skin and in the air around you, so a hyaluronic lotion feels its best in a humid Japanese summer and noticeably less impressive in a dry, heated room in winter. The fix is not more lotion but something on top of it — an emulsion or a cream — to stop the water leaving again.
What is the correct order for the Gokujyun products?
Foaming face wash first, then the lotion, then the emulsion, then the cream — thinnest to richest. You do not need all four: lotion plus cream is a complete routine, and the Perfect Gel replaces the whole middle of it on its own. Browse the rest of the line under toners and moisturisers.
Is this product halal or suitable for vegans?
The declared ingredient list is plant- and mineral-derived, with no animal ingredients, so it fits a vegan routine. It carries no halal certification, however — Japanese domestic cosmetics are rarely certified — so if certification itself matters to you, this product does not have it.
Is the Japanese version the same as the one sold in my country?
Not necessarily. Rohto sells Hada Labo under different formulations for different markets — the Japanese domestic version, which is what we ship, is the one whose ingredient list appears on this page. If you have used a Hada Labo lotion bought locally and want the same thing again, compare the ingredient lists rather than the brand name.
