Description

Hisamitsu FEITAS 5.0 Medicated Tape, Large 10 × 14 cm, 20 patches — Japan

Overview

FEITAS 5.0 medicated tape by Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical, 10 × 14 cm, 20 patches per box. Bought in Japan and shipped from our shelf in Kobe. Listed with our other Japanese health products.

Read this first: this is a medicine, not a warming plaster. FEITAS 5.0 is a Japanese Class-2 non-prescription medicine (第2類医薬品). The thing that makes it work is felbinac, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, delivered through the skin. It has a dose, an age limit and a list of people who must not use it. Descriptions of it as simply a patch with an "anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect" leave all of that out. The Cautions section below is not boilerplate; please read it before you order.

The figures, in the right units. You will see this patch listed elsewhere as containing "felbinac — 5 g, L-menthol — 3.5 g, tocopherol acetate — 2.3 g". Those are not grams. Hisamitsu states felbinac at 5.0% and l-menthol at 3.5% of the adhesive mass; the number 5.0 is where the product name comes from. A patch this size holds milligrams of drug, not grams — a gram figure is out by roughly a factor of a hundred, and anyone using it to judge how much NSAID they are applying gets a badly wrong answer. The percentages here are given as percentages, and the vitamin E figure, which we could not confirm against Hisamitsu, is not given as a number at all — read it from the package insert.

What it is for. Hisamitsu registers FEITAS 5.0 for shoulder pain associated with stiff neck muscles, low back pain, and joint and muscle pain — including bruises and sprains. The tape stretches in every direction and stays on under clothing and through a night's sleep. l-Menthol gives the cooling sensation; vitamin E is included by the manufacturer to support circulation at the site. The smell is mild enough for daytime wear.

Which size to order. This listing is the 10 × 14 cm large size, 20 patches. It is the large size — the lower back, the upper back between the shoulder blades, a thigh. The other size we stock is Hisamitsu FEITAS 5.0, 7 × 10 cm, 20 patches. Both hold the same medicine at the same strength — the difference is the area of skin one patch covers, and covering a large area with several small patches means more drug, not less.

Before you order from outside Japan. This is a registered medicine. Some countries restrict or prohibit the personal import of topical NSAIDs, and in several of them felbinac is prescription-only. Customs rules are the buyer's responsibility, and a parcel held or returned by customs is not something we can release. Please check your own country's rules on importing medicines for personal use before ordering.

Key Benefits

  • ✓ Felbinac 5.0% of the adhesive mass — the manufacturer's figure, and the number in the product name
  • ✓ l-Menthol 3.5% for the cooling sensation, plus vitamin E to support circulation at the site
  • ✓ Registered Japanese Class-2 medicine (第2類医薬品), so indications, dose and contraindications are all defined rather than implied
  • ✓ Stretches in every direction and follows a joint through its range of movement
  • ✓ Stays on under clothing and overnight; the smell is mild enough to wear during the day
  • ✓ 20 patches per box, with the Japanese illustrated insert included
  • ✓ Two sizes stocked, so you are not cutting a large patch down or tiling small ones

Who Is This For?

  • Adults with shoulder, neck, back, joint or muscle pain who want a defined dose of a topical NSAID rather than a warming or herbal patch
  • People who need the patch to stay put through a working day or a night's sleep
  • Anyone who has used Japanese medicated tape before and knows they tolerate it
  • Not for anyone with a history of asthma, anyone pregnant or possibly pregnant, or anyone under 15 — see Cautions

How to Use

  1. Make sure the skin is clean and dry. After a shower or bath, wait until the skin has cooled and dried before applying.
  2. Peel the backing film away and place the patch over the painful area without stretching the skin.
  3. Smooth it down from the middle outwards so no edge is left lifted.
  4. Leave it in place, then remove it slowly in the direction of hair growth.
  5. Apply a fresh patch after showering rather than trying to re-stick a used one.

Frequency: Up to twice a day, on the affected area only

Full Ingredients

Active ingredients, as percentages of the adhesive mass (Hisamitsu):

  • Felbinac — 5.0% (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug)
  • l-Menthol — 3.5% (cooling sensation)
  • Tocopherol acetate (vitamin E) — included by the manufacturer to support circulation at the site. We could not confirm the exact percentage against Hisamitsu and are therefore not printing one; the figure is in the package insert.

The remainder is the adhesive and backing. These are percentages, not grams per patch — see the correction in the Overview.

Cautions

  • Do not use if you have ever had an asthma attack. Reactions to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are recognised, and the drug does not have to be swallowed to cause one.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or may be pregnant.
  • Do not use in children under 15.
  • Do not use if you have previously had an allergic reaction to this product or any of its ingredients.
  • Ask a doctor or pharmacist first if you are under medical treatment, or have a history of drug allergy.
  • Do not apply to the eyes, to mucous membranes, to broken skin, or to skin with eczema or a rash.
  • Use no more than twice a day, and do not use it at the same time as another topical anti-inflammatory product on the same area.
  • Stop and consult a doctor or pharmacist if a rash, redness, itching or irritation appears.
  • If the pain has not improved after 5–6 days of use, stop and consult a doctor or pharmacist.
  • Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and damp, and keep the pouch closed so the remaining patches do not dry out.

Package Contents

One box: 20 patches of 10 × 14 cm in a resealable foil pouch, with Hisamitsu's illustrated Japanese insert. The insert is in Japanese only; the dosing, contraindications and warnings from it are reproduced in your language above.

FAQ

How much felbinac is actually in one patch?

Felbinac makes up 5.0% of the adhesive mass — that is the manufacturer's figure and the number in the product name. It is a percentage, not grams. A "5 g" figure, which does circulate, is wrong by about a factor of a hundred.

Can I use it if I have asthma?

No. Hisamitsu's labelling says anyone who has ever had an asthma attack must not use this product. Reactions to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are well described and do not require the drug to be swallowed.

Is this the same as a warming or herbal pain patch?

No. Those are usually cosmetics or quasi-drugs working by counter-irritation. This is a registered medicine delivering an NSAID through the skin, with a defined dose and defined contraindications.

Which size should I buy?

Match the patch to the area: the 10 × 14 cm large size here, and Hisamitsu FEITAS 5.0, 7 × 10 cm, 20 patches for the other. Covering a large area with several small patches means more drug, not less, so pick the size that fits rather than doubling up.

Will it ship to my country?

That depends on your country's rules for importing medicines for personal use. In several countries topical NSAIDs are prescription-only or restricted at the border. Please check before ordering; customs decisions are outside our control.
