Delta is the spray in the Kaminomoto range: the same category of medicated scalp treatment, in a format that puts the liquid on a parting or a crown without running down the neck. Kaminomoto declares eight approved actives and sorts them by the job each was approved for — two for the hair-producing function, two for circulation, three for dandruff and itching, and one to block androgen activity.
That last one is ethinylestradiol, a synthetic oestrogen. It is not a minor excipient here; on the manufacturer's own page it is the mechanism the product is sold on. How to Use
- Part the hair to expose the scalp where you want to treat.
- Hold the nozzle 5–10 cm from the skin and apply two or three sprays per area.
- Repeat on the next parting until the areas of concern are covered.
- Massage in with the fingertips for about a minute.
- Leave on. Do not rinse. Style as usual.

Hair-producing function — CS-Base, D-panthenyl alcohol. Circulation — Kamigen E, Kamigen K. Androgen activity — ethinylestradiol. Dandruff and itching — isopropyl methylphenol, allantoin, diphenhydramine hydrochloride.
The formula also carries mineral zinc. Contains ethanol.
Please read before ordering. Japan approves ethinylestradiol as an active in this category of quasi-drug hair tonic. Most of our other markets do not: in the EU, the UK and the US it is a prescription medicine and is not an ingredient permitted in cosmetics. That does not make the Japanese product unsafe as sold in Japan — it means the regulatory frame differs, and that customs treatment or personal-import limits in your country may differ too. FAQ
There is a hormone in this hair tonic — should that worry me?
It should at least be a decision you make knowingly, which is why it is on this page. Ethinylestradiol is a synthetic oestrogen; Japan's Ministry of Health approved it in this class of hair tonic to counter the effect of androgens on the scalp, at the low concentration a quasi-drug allows. Applied to the scalp it is not the same exposure as taking a tablet. Even so, the sensible line is the manufacturer's own: not in pregnancy, not while breastfeeding, not for children, and a conversation with your doctor first if you have a hormone-sensitive condition. If you would rather avoid a hormone entirely, Kaminomoto A Hair Tonic and Ladies Kaminomoto EX are the two products in this range that do not contain one.
When in the day should a scalp tonic go on, and does it matter?
It matters more than the brand does. A tonic is meant for a clean scalp with the hair towel-dried, not soaking: on wet hair the liquid runs off before it can sit on the skin, and on a day-old scalp it has sebum to get through first. Part the hair in rows and put it on the skin, not the lengths — the lengths are dead keratin and cannot use it. Then massage for a minute; the massage is doing at least as much as anything in the bottle. Most people find evening after washing the easiest slot to keep to, and keeping to it is the part that decides whether you ever find out if it works.
Will this regrow hair I have already lost?
No, and any page that says otherwise is selling you something. A Japanese scalp essence in this category is approved to support the hair you still have — reducing itch and flaking, keeping the scalp comfortable, and helping existing growth stay in place. It does not restore follicles that have closed, and it does not treat androgenetic hair loss, for which there are actual medicines. If your parting is widening or you are shedding in clumps, see a dermatologist rather than working through bottles of essence.
What does "quasi-drug" mean on a Japanese label?
Quasi-drug (iyakubugaihin) is a Japanese regulatory category that sits between cosmetics and medicines. A product enters it by naming specific active ingredients at approved concentrations, and it may then state the effect those actives were approved for. It is not a medicine and it is not a promise of a result on your skin. Outside Japan the same product is normally imported and sold as an ordinary cosmetic.
Will I pay customs duty or import VAT?
