Description

Kao THE ANSWER EX Moist Treatment 220 g — Japanese Rinse-Off Hair Treatment for Daily Damage

Overview

The treatment half of the THE ANSWER pair, in the EX Moist version, which Kao subtitles for daily damage — meaning the wear that comes from dryers, irons, sunlight and friction against a pillow rather than from a single chemical service. It uses the same five core ingredients as the matching shampoo, at a higher concentration and in a richer, rinse-off base.

Two of those five are animal-derived: hydrolysed keratin from wool and lanolin fatty acid from sheep wool. Our previous page listed both as selling points and said nothing about where they come from. See also our Japanese haircare range.

Key Benefits

  • ✓ Higher concentration of ceramide α and olive-derived fatty-acid glyceride than the shampoo carries
  • ✓ Silicone-free: the slip comes from the conditioning base rather than a film that builds up over months
  • ✓ Formulated for cumulative daily damage — heat, UV and friction — rather than for one-off chemical damage
  • ✓ Animal-derived ingredients named on this page instead of listed as unexplained benefits
  • ✓ 220 g tube, matched in scent to the shampoo so the two do not clash
  • ✓ Shipped from our base in Kobe, Japan with tracking, in the Japanese domestic packaging

Who Is This For?

  • Anyone who uses a dryer or an iron most days and wants the treatment step to do the work
  • People with fine to medium hair who find rich treatments leave the roots flat
  • Users of the matching shampoo who want the pair, and anyone who wants only one of the two — buy this one
  • Not suitable if: you avoid animal-derived ingredients — it contains wool keratin and lanolin
  • Check first if: you have a wool or lanolin allergy

How to Use

  1. Shampoo first, then squeeze the water out of the hair — a wet cuticle dilutes anything you put on it.
  2. Take roughly a tablespoon for medium-length hair and apply from mid-lengths to ends.
  3. Comb through with a wide-tooth comb so the coverage is even rather than concentrated in patches.
  4. Leave two to five minutes. Longer does not add much; forgetting it in the shower does no harm.
  5. Rinse with lukewarm water until the hair no longer feels slippery.

Frequency: Every wash, or two to three times a week if your hair weighs down easily

Full Ingredients

Core ingredients named by Kao: hydrolysed keratin (wool); ceramide α (bis-methoxypropylamido isodocosane); malic acid; lanolin fatty acid; fatty-acid glyceride α from olive fruit oil.

Silicone-free and paraben-free, per the Japanese label. Kao publishes these five as the line's shared repair complex but does not put the complete INCI for the treatment online; the full list is printed on the tube.

The manufacturer publishes the actives and the headline ingredients but not the complete INCI list online. What is shown above is what is disclosed; the full list is printed on the package you receive.

Cautions

  • Contains hydrolysed keratin derived from wool — relevant if you react to lanolin or wool, and it means the product is not vegan.
  • Contains lanolin fatty acid, a sheep-wool derivative — a known contact allergen for a minority of users and not suitable if you avoid animal-derived ingredients.
  • For hair and scalp use only. Avoid the eyes; rinse with plenty of water on contact.
  • Stop and consult a doctor if the scalp reddens, itches or flakes after use.
  • Keep out of reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight and high temperatures.

FAQ

Do I have to buy the matching shampoo and treatment together?

No — each works on its own, and the pairing is a marketing structure as much as a formulation one. What is true is narrower: a shampoo that leaves the cuticle slightly acidified gives the treatment that follows a marginally better surface to sit on, and the two share a fragrance so they do not fight each other in the shower. If your budget stretches to one of the pair, buy the treatment: it stays on the hair, while shampoo is on the head for ninety seconds and then goes down the drain.

Is this product halal or suitable for vegans?

This treatment contains hydrolysed keratin from wool and lanolin fatty acid from sheep wool — two animal-derived ingredients. The product carries no halal certification — Japanese domestic cosmetics are rarely certified — so if certification itself matters to you, this product does not have it.

The packaging is in Japanese — how do I know what I am using?

The carton and bottle carry Japanese-language labelling, because this is stock made for the Japanese domestic market. Where an ingredient list appears on this page, it is translated from that labelling or from the manufacturer's own published data; where the manufacturer does not publish one, the ingredients section says so rather than filling the gap. Either way, send us a photo of anything unclear on the box after delivery and we will translate it, and ask us before ordering if you need the full label list first.

Is this an authentic Japanese product?

Yes. We buy through Japanese distribution channels and ship from our base in Kobe, Japan. We do not sell grey-market or parallel-import stock, and the packaging you receive is the Japanese domestic packaging, with Japanese-language labelling.

Will I pay customs duty or import VAT?

That depends on your country and on the declared value of the parcel, not on us. We ship from Japan with a correct customs declaration and full tracking; any duty or import VAT your country charges is collected by your local carrier or customs office on delivery. Check your national de-minimis threshold before ordering if you want to avoid a surprise.
