The mechanism is unusual and worth understanding before you buy, because it is not what most listings claim. The black panel on the back of the handle is a carbon-loaded conductive resin. When your hand rests on it, a circuit closes through you and a very weak current flows to the bristles. There is no battery and no power source — the brush does nothing at all until someone is holding it.

How to Use
- Wet the bristles. Toothpaste is optional — Ionic designs these to work with water alone.
- Hold the handle so your hand covers the black panel on the back. This is what closes the circuit; grip it through a glove or a towel and nothing happens.
- Brush as you normally would, with light pressure and small strokes along the gumline.
- Rinse the head and stand it upright to dry. Wipe the black panel clean if toothpaste builds up on it.
- Replace the head when the bristles splay — about every three months. KISS YOU and ionic heads both fit.

FAQ
Flat trim or the tapered ultra-fine head — which should I pick?
Flat trim puts even pressure across the flat faces of the teeth and is the safer default if you tend to press hard. The tapered 極細 head reaches further into the tooth–gum margin but is easier to overdo. If your dentist has mentioned gum recession, flat is the more forgiving of the two.
Does it need batteries?
No — and this is the most common misunderstanding about these brushes, one our own page used to repeat. There is no battery and no cell to replace. The black panel on the back of the handle is a carbon-loaded conductive resin, and the circuit closes through your hand when you hold it. If you grip it through a glove, the ion effect does not happen.
Do I still need toothpaste?
Not for the ion effect to work — Ionic specifically designs these to clean with water alone, and the 1.5× plaque-removal figure is measured that way. Many people still use paste for fluoride, which the brush does not provide and cannot substitute for. Using both is perfectly fine.
Will my old KISS YOU heads fit?
Yes. Ionic states that replacement heads are interchangeable between the KISS YOU and ionic ranges, so heads you already own will fit a new handle, and vice versa.
