Description

La Mente CPla Mask, 4 Sheets x 26 ml

Overview

La Mente is a Japanese salon-channel brand, and this is one of its most concentrated products: an extra-long sheet that covers face and neck, soaked in 26 ml of essence built on three forms of placenta, a stable vitamin C derivative, and two human oligopeptides marketed as EGF and FGF.

This is a page where the ingredient list matters more than the marketing. Placenta, umbilical cord extract, sake lees and ethanol are all present, and if any of those is a line you do not cross, you should know before you buy rather than after. See the rest of our Japanese face masks.

Key Benefits

  • 26 ml of essence per sheet, which is unusually generous — most drugstore sheets carry a fraction of that
  • Magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, a stable water-soluble vitamin C derivative that does not oxidise the way pure ascorbic acid does
  • Three placenta forms: water-soluble placenta extract, a Saccharomyces and brown-sugar placenta ferment filtrate, and placenta lipid in an olive oil base
  • Human oligopeptide-1 and -13, the ingredients sold in this category as EGF and FGF
  • Extended sheet design reaching the neck, an area most sheet masks ignore
  • Ceramide, betaine, sodium PCA and sodium hyaluronate as the hydration layer beneath the actives

Who Is This For?

  • Mature or dehydrated skin wanting an occasional intensive step rather than a daily one
  • Anyone preparing for an event, recovering from travel, or dealing with post-sun dullness
  • People who care about the neck as well as the face and are tired of masks that stop at the jaw
  • Not for vegans, and not for anyone avoiding placenta-derived or human-sequence peptide ingredients
  • Not for use in pregnancy or breastfeeding without medical agreement — the formula contains retinyl palmitate

How to Use

  1. Cleanse and tone as usual.
  2. Unfold the sheet and place it over the face, pressing along the jaw and around the nose for contact.
  3. Extend the lower section down over the neck and press the edges flat.
  4. Leave on for ten minutes — no longer, since a drying sheet works against you.
  5. Remove and pat the remaining essence in from face down to neck. Do not rinse.

Frequency: Once a week, or before an occasion. This is a treatment, not a daily step.

Full Ingredients

Full ingredient list: water, BG, DPG, pentylene glycol, magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, diglycerin, olive fruit oil, placenta extract, Saccharomyces/(brown sugar/placenta extract) ferment filtrate, placenta lipid, umbilical cord extract, human oligopeptide-1, human oligopeptide-13, sake lees extract, sodium hyaluronate, magnesium aspartate, copper gluconate, zinc gluconate, Saccharomyces cerevisiae extract, cerebroside, retinyl palmitate, tocopherol, Prunus armeniaca kernel oil, Persea gratissima (avocado) oil, Rosa canina fruit oil, Helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, dipotassium glycyrrhizate, aminocaproic acid, sodium PCA, betaine, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, hydroxyethylcellulose, xanthan gum, natto gum, polysorbate 20, PEG-50 hydrogenated castor oil, lactic acid, citric acid, sodium citrate, sodium hydroxide, ethanol, phenoxyethanol.

Origins worth stating. Placenta in Japanese cosmetics is normally porcine; the manufacturer does not specify here, and neither will we. Umbilical cord extract is likewise animal-derived. Human oligopeptide-1 and -13 are laboratory-synthesised peptides with human amino-acid sequences — they are not derived from human tissue. Sake lees is the residue of rice-wine brewing. Natto gum comes from fermented soybeans. Ethanol is present near the end of the list.

Ingredient list as declared by the manufacturer. Formulations are occasionally revised, so always read the list printed on the package you receive.

Cautions

  • Contains animal-derived ingredients — not suitable for vegans.
  • Contains a retinol-type ingredient: use sunscreen during the day and avoid it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless your doctor agrees.
  • Contains ethanol (alcohol), which can sting dry or reactive skin — patch test first if your barrier is compromised.
  • Contains soy-derived ingredients — avoid if you have a soy allergy.
  • Contains apricot kernel oil — relevant if you have a stone-fruit or nut sensitivity.
  • The peptides in this formula are conditioning ingredients. They do not stimulate cell division or make skin produce collagen and elastin, and we have removed the wording that said they do.
  • Single use only. Ten minutes maximum.
  • Patch test on the inner forearm before first use, especially if your skin is reactive.
  • Discontinue use and consult a doctor if redness, itching, swelling or persistent stinging occurs.
  • Avoid contact with the eyes. If the product enters the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
  • Do not apply to broken, sunburned or actively inflamed skin.
  • Keep out of reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight and high temperatures.

FAQ

Is this halal? What exactly is in it?

It carries no halal certification, and there are three things you would want to weigh. The formula contains placenta in three forms and umbilical cord extract, both animal-derived, with the species not specified by the manufacturer — placenta in Japanese cosmetics is usually porcine. It contains sake lees extract, a by-product of rice-wine brewing. And it contains ethanol. Any one of those may be decisive for you. We are not in a position to rule on it, but we are in a position to tell you plainly what is in the bottle, which is what this paragraph is for.

What do EGF and FGF actually do here?

They are human oligopeptide-1 and -13, synthesised in a laboratory to match human peptide sequences. In cosmetic use they behave as conditioning and film-forming ingredients. Our previous version of this page said they stimulate skin cell renewal and support collagen and elastin production; that is a physiological claim, it is not something a cosmetic may say, and the evidence for meaningful transdermal delivery of molecules this size is thin. What you can reasonably expect is a well-hydrated, smooth-looking result for a day or two, which is what a good sheet mask delivers.

Why only ten minutes?

Because past that point the sheet starts to dry, and a drying sheet draws water back out of the skin by evaporation. The essence has already transferred within ten minutes; leaving it longer does not add anything and can undo part of the benefit. Take it off, press the remaining essence in, and follow with a cream if your skin is dry.

The packaging is in Japanese — how do I know what I am using?

The carton and bottle carry Japanese-language labelling, because this is stock made for the Japanese domestic market. Where an ingredient list appears on this page, it is translated from that labelling or from the manufacturer's own published data; where the manufacturer does not publish one, the ingredients section says so rather than filling the gap. Either way, send us a photo of anything unclear on the box after delivery and we will translate it, and ask us before ordering if you need the full label list first.

Will I pay customs duty or import VAT?

That depends on your country and on the declared value of the parcel, not on us. We ship from Japan with a correct customs declaration and full tracking; any duty or import VAT your country charges is collected by your local carrier or customs office on delivery. Check your national de-minimis threshold before ordering if you want to avoid a surprise.
