Who Is This For?
- You want a short ingredient list. Five items, three of them water, solvent and preservative. If you are trying to work out what your skin reacts to, there is very little here to be the culprit.
- You already have a cream you like and want to add one thing under it. A 原液 is a layer, not a routine.
- You are refilling rather than trying. 100 ml is a professional size and a real commitment; if you have never used a placenta essence, this is a large first bottle.
- You are a therapist or work in a salon. This is the format the trade buys.
- Not for you if you avoid animal-derived ingredients — vegan, halal or kosher. The placenta is equine and the product carries no certification.

How to Use
- Cleanse, then prepare the skin with your toner or lotion.
- Take a small amount — this is undiluted, so less than you would use of a finished serum.
- Press it into the face and neck with the palms rather than rubbing it in.
- Give it a moment to absorb; it is watery and sinks in quickly.
- Follow with your usual cream or emulsion. Without one on top, the essence will evaporate faster than it should — there is nothing in the bottle to hold it in place.
Frequency: Morning and evening, or once a day if your routine is lighter.

That is it. The single ingredient doing the work is the third one: placenta extract fermented by Saccharomyces yeast together with brown sugar, then aged. The maker describes fermentation as increasing the vitamin, mineral and amino acid content of the extract. BG is the solvent, sodium citrate the pH adjuster, phenoxyethanol the preservative.
In Japan this product is registered as a cosmetic (化粧品), not as a quasi-drug. That matters for what it may claim: a cosmetic is not permitted to state a recognised active ingredient or an approved medicinal effect, and neither do we.
Cautions
- For external use only. Avoid the eye area; if the product gets into the eyes, rinse at once with water or lukewarm water.
- Do not use on skin with wounds, swelling, eczema, sunburn or any other abnormality.
- Patch test before the first full-face use: apply a little to the inner forearm and leave it 24 hours.
- Stop using it and speak to a dermatologist if redness, swelling, itching, stinging or any other reaction appears during use or afterwards. Continuing can make it worse.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Close the pack after use and store away from direct sunlight, heat and damp.
- Animal-derived: the placenta in this product is equine (horse). It is not halal-certified and it is not suitable for vegans. Whether horse-derived material is acceptable differs between schools of Islamic jurisprudence, and the raw material is not slaughtered to halal standard in any case. If this matters to you, please treat the product as unsuitable rather than assume.
- This is a professional-size bottle with a simple preservative system and no fragrance to mask change. Keep the cap closed, keep it cool and dark, and stop using it if the colour or the smell shifts.

Which animal is the placenta from?
Horse. The maker states 馬プラセンタ — equine placenta — so this is not a case of the source being undisclosed. An earlier version of this page said LA MENTE did not specify and that customers should assume porcine or equine. That was wrong, and the answer matters enough to people with religious or dietary requirements that it should not have been left vague.
Why is the ingredient list so short?
Because a 原液 is not a finished product. It is one active in water with a solvent and a preservative, sold for you or your therapist to layer under something else. A retail serum at this price would have twenty ingredients, most of them texture. Neither approach is better — but if you are hunting for what irritates your skin, five is a much easier list to work with than twenty.
What does fermenting placenta actually do?
The maker's account is that fermenting the extract with yeast and brown sugar, and then ageing it, raises the vitamin, mineral and amino acid content. That is what LA MENTE claims and it is what we will repeat. We are not going to tell you it makes the actives penetrate deeper or work better than unfermented placenta — those are comparisons nobody has published for this product.
Is it halal?
No, and please do not treat the absence of pork as a yes. The placenta is equine, the product carries no halal certification, and the raw material is not from halal-standard slaughter. Schools of jurisprudence differ on horse-derived material, so if this matters to you, treat the product as unsuitable.
