Description

Lion Smile 40EX Gold Mild — Japanese Eye Drops, 8 Active Ingredients, 13 ml

Overview

A mild-sensation Japanese eye drop for tired, hazy eyes, from Lion's Smile 40 EX Gold range. Lion declares eight active ingredients — three vitamins, two nutrient/oxygen-supply ingredients, a focus-adjusting agent, an anti-itch agent and a decongestant — and, unusually for this category, formulates it without added preservatives: no benzalkonium chloride. It is a Class 2 designated OTC medicine in Japan, sold in a 13 ml twist-cap bottle.

Who Is This For?

  • Anyone whose eyes are tired at the end of a screen day — the focus-adjusting ingredient is aimed at exactly that.
  • Students, drivers and readers who need a drop that works on strain rather than dryness alone.
  • Hard contact lens wearers, for whom discomfort during wear is a listed indication.
  • People who react badly to preserved eye drops — this one is formulated without added preservative.
  • Not for soft contact lens wearers while lenses are in, and not for anyone under treatment for glaucoma without asking their doctor first.

How to Use

  1. Tilt your head back and gently pull down the lower eyelid.
  2. Instil 1 to 3 drops into each eye.
  3. Blink gently to spread the drops.
  4. Do not let the tip of the bottle touch your eye, eyelid or lashes.
  5. Open and close the twist cap with the cap pointing straight up, holding the narrow part of the bottle.

Frequency: 3 to 6 times a day

Inactive ingredients: Boric acid, trometamol, sodium edetate, dibutylhydroxytoluene (BHT), polyoxyethylene hydrogenated castor oil, polysorbate 80, propylene glycol, l-menthol, dl-camphor, tonicity agent, pH adjuster. No preservative added — Lion achieves preservation through its own formulation technology rather than benzalkonium chloride. Storage and expiry are handled the same way as for a preserved eye drop.

Approved indications: Eye fatigue; eye haziness (when discharge is heavy); conjunctival redness; eye itching; blepharitis (sore eyelids); prevention of eye disease (after swimming, or when dust or sweat gets into the eye); inflammation of the eye caused by ultraviolet or other light (such as snow blindness); discomfort while wearing hard contact lenses.

Cautions

  • For ophthalmic use only. This is a medicine — use it for the indications listed above and nothing else.
  • Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are under medical treatment, have had an allergic reaction to a medicine, have severe eye pain, or have been diagnosed with glaucoma.
  • Stop use and seek advice if you develop a rash, redness or itching of the skin, or congestion, itching, swelling or stinging of the eye.
  • Stop use and seek advice if haziness does not improve, or if there is no improvement after 5–6 days.
  • Overuse can cause abnormal glare or, paradoxically, more redness than you started with.
  • Do not touch the bottle tip to the eye, eyelid or lashes; do not use the solution if it has become cloudy or changed colour.
  • Do not share the bottle with anyone else, and do not decant it into another container.
  • Children should use it only under adult supervision. Keep out of reach of children.
  • Store closed, out of direct sunlight, in a cool place. Do not leave it above 40 °C — a car interior or near a heater will do that.
  • Do not use past the expiry date printed on the base of the carton, and finish an opened bottle promptly.

FAQ

How many drops, and how often?

One to three drops each time, 3 to 6 times a day. That is Lion Corporation's own instruction; more than that is not better and can cause glare or rebound redness.

Can I use it with contact lenses in?

Do not use while wearing soft contact lenses. Hard contact lenses are a different matter: discomfort during hard lens wear is one of this product's listed indications, so it may be used with hard lenses in.

How many active ingredients does it actually have?

Lion Corporation declares 8, and all 8 are listed above with their amounts per 100 ml and the action Lion Corporation attributes to each.

Does it contain a preservative?

No. Lion states the product is formulated without added preservative — no benzalkonium chloride — using its own formulation technology instead. Storage and expiry are handled the same way as for a preserved drop, so this is not a licence to keep an opened bottle longer.

Is this the authentic Japanese product?

Yes. We source directly from Japan and dispatch every order from our warehouse in Kobe with full tracking. Note that this is a Class 2 designated OTC medicine in Japan; many countries restrict the import of foreign OTC medicines, so please check your destination's rules before ordering.
