What it is. ロキソニンEXテープ — a Class 2 Japanese OTC medicine (第2類医薬品), not a cosmetic and not a supplement. The active is loxoprofen sodium hydrate, an NSAID, delivered through the skin to the area you stick it on. It also contains tocopherol acetate and l-menthol as declared actives.
Dosing, exactly as the Japanese label states it. One patch to the affected area, once a day. Not more than four patches in a day in total. Not for anyone under 15. If it has not helped after five or six days, stop and see a doctor. Two weeks continuous is the ceiling.
Three sentences we have taken off this page. It called loxoprofen a "prescription-grade NSAID active ingredient"; it described it as "the same active ingredient found in Japan's best-selling oral NSAID"; and it said one patch "provides up to 24 hours of continuous analgesic action". The first two are marketing framing on a medicine, the third turns a once-a-day dosing instruction into an efficacy claim. None of the three is a label statement.

How to Use
- Make sure the skin is clean, dry and unbroken.
- Peel the plastic liner off the adhesive side.
- Lay the patch over the painful area and press it down from the middle outward.
- Leave one patch in place for the day, then remove it. One application per area, once a day.
- Count your patches: four in a day is the label maximum across all areas together.
Frequency: Once a day. Maximum four patches per day. Stop and see a doctor if there is no improvement after 5–6 days. Do not use for more than two weeks continuously.
Full Ingredients
Active ingredients per 100 g of plaster: loxoprofen sodium hydrate 8.10 g (equivalent to 7.14 g anhydrous loxoprofen sodium); tocopherol acetate 2.3 g; l-menthol 3.5 g. Plaster weight is 0.7 g per 7 × 10 cm patch.
Excipients: styrene-isoprene-styrene block copolymer, polyisobutylene, hydrogenated rosin glycerin ester, BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene), zinc stearate, liquid paraffin, and others as listed on the package insert.
The package insert supplied in the box is in Japanese. If you need the indication and warning text in another language, ask a pharmacist rather than working from a machine translation of a medicine label.
Cautions
- Class 2 OTC medicine (第2類医薬品) in Japan. Its status in your country may be different — check before importing.
- Do not use if you are under 15.
- Do not use if you have ever had an allergic reaction to this product or its ingredients.
- Do not use if you have ever had asthma brought on by any analgesic, antipyretic, cold remedy or topical anti-inflammatory. This is an absolute contraindication, not a caution.
- Do not apply near the eyes, on mucous membranes, on eczema, rashes, broken skin, athlete's foot or ringworm, or on any infected area.
- Ask a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are pregnant or may be pregnant, breastfeeding, elderly, under treatment, or have kidney or liver disease.
- If symptoms do not improve after 5–6 days of use, stop and see a doctor. A pain that does not respond in under a week is a pain that needs diagnosing.
- Do not use continuously for more than two weeks.
- Stop and consult a doctor if a rash, redness, itching or swelling appears where the patch was applied.
- External use only. Keep out of reach of children. Store away from sunlight, heat and damp.

How many patches arrive in this box?
Seven, 7 × 10 cm each. You may see "7 patches or 14 patches" given as though it were one product: there is a separate 14-patch pack, and there is a larger version called Loxonin EX Tape L. Both are different products from this one.
Can I use it if I am pregnant?
Ask a doctor or pharmacist first — the Japanese label puts pregnancy and suspected pregnancy in the consult-before-use category, not the do-not-use category. Ask before, not after.
Is it stronger than a normal patch?
It contains an NSAID, loxoprofen, which many patches do not. We are not going to grade it against other products, and we will not use the "prescription-grade" framing that often attaches to it: this is an over-the-counter medicine, and describing it in prescription terms is not accurate.
How does it compare to taking loxoprofen tablets?
A patch applies the drug at one place. That is the difference, and it is why the dose limits printed on the box exist. What we will not do is tell you the systemic exposure is negligible — it is not zero, which is exactly why the label caps you at four patches a day and asks anyone with kidney or liver disease to consult first.
What if it does not help?
The label answers this: if there is no improvement after five or six days, stop and see a doctor. It is the most useful sentence on the box and the one most listings leave out.
