How to Use

1. Cleanse and apply your lotion — a mask over bare skin adheres less evenly

Cautions

• Patch test on the inner forearm before first use, especially if your skin is reactive.
• Discontinue use and consult a doctor if redness, itching, swelling or persistent stinging occurs.
• Avoid contact with the eyes. If the product enters the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
• Do not apply to broken, sunburned or actively inflamed skin.
• Keep out of reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight and high temperatures.
• The previous description said retinol "stimulates collagen production and suppresses sebum secretion", that centella is "used for wound treatment" and can "suppress acne and acne scars", that bakuchiol "combats pigmentation, fights acne", and that niacinamide "relieves inflammation, fights acne, lightens pigmentation spots and post-acne marks, slows down the aging process". Those are treatment claims on a cosmetic sheet mask and we have removed all of them.
• Contains a retinol-type ingredient: use sunscreen during the day and avoid it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless your doctor agrees.
• Do not leave a sheet mask on until it dries out. Once the sheet starts to dry it pulls moisture back out of the skin — the manufacturer's five to ten minutes is a real instruction, not a suggestion.
• A sheet mask is a hydration event, not a treatment course. Ten or fifteen minutes of contact will not deliver the sustained exposure that gives a leave-on retinoid or acid its results, and no sheet mask should be bought expecting them.
• This is a moisturising product with no sun filters — it does not protect skin from UV. Apply sunscreen separately in the morning.

FAQ

Can I use this if I am pregnant?

Ask your doctor first. The mask contains retinyl palmitate, a vitamin A ester. Topical vitamin A derivatives are absorbed in small amounts and many clinicians advise avoiding them in pregnancy and breastfeeding as a precaution, even though the risk from a rinse-off-adjacent cosmetic is very different from that of oral vitamin A. The previous description did not mention this at all, which is why we are stating it plainly.

What is bakuchiol and is it really the same as retinol?

No. Bakuchiol is a plant compound from Psoralea corylifolia seeds that behaves somewhat like a retinoid in laboratory and small clinical studies, and it is generally better tolerated. But the evidence base behind it is far thinner than retinol's, and results are slower where they appear at all. This mask contains both bakuchiol and a retinyl ester, so the retinoid cautions apply regardless of what you make of bakuchiol.

How often should I use it?

Two or three times a week is plenty, and on skin new to retinoids, once a week for the first fortnight. More masks do not produce more result; they produce a more irritated barrier. Ten sheets used twice weekly is five weeks of use, which is roughly the timescale on which you could expect to notice anything.

Is this product halal or suitable for vegans?

The declared ingredient list is plant- and mineral-derived, with no animal ingredients, so it fits a vegan routine. It carries no halal certification, however — Japanese domestic cosmetics are rarely certified — so if certification itself matters to you, this product does not have it.

The packaging is in Japanese — how do I know what I am using?
