DHC Multimineral, 60-Day Supply — 180 Tablets, 10 Minerals, Iron 7.5 mg a Day

Overview

Three tablets a day supply ten minerals, five of them delivered as mineral-enriched yeast. 180 tablets, three a day, 60 days.

The figure that should decide this purchase is the iron: 7.5 mg a day, which DHC states as 110% of the Japanese daily reference. That is a full iron dose, not a top-up. If you already take iron, if you have haemochromatosis, or if a doctor is watching your ferritin, this is the wrong mineral blend for you — and you could not have worked that out from a page that printed no numbers.

Two more facts that decide this product for some readers: the calcium is shell-derived, so this is not a vegan product, and there is iodine at 50.8 µg a day, which matters if you have a thyroid condition. Against that, the tablet uses cellulose rather than gelatin — apart from the shell calcium it is one of the few DHC supplements we carry that a vegetarian could consider.

Who Is This For?

  • People who want one mineral tablet instead of four separate bottles, and want to see all ten figures first
  • Anyone whose diet is thin on minerals and who is not currently taking iron from another source
  • Vegetarians who can accept shell-derived calcium — the tablet itself uses cellulose, not gelatin
  • Anyone comparing mineral blends who needs the Japanese reference percentages to compare against
  • Not for: anyone already taking iron, anyone with haemochromatosis or another iron-loading condition, anyone with a thyroid condition who needs to control iodine intake, vegans because of the shell calcium, and anyone under medical treatment without asking a doctor first.

How to Use

  1. Take three tablets a day.
  2. Swallow them with water or lukewarm water.
  3. Take them with or just after a meal. Iron and zinc are better tolerated with food, and food reduces the chance of nausea from the iron.
  4. Keep at least two hours between this and any tea, coffee or calcium-rich drink if the iron is the reason you are taking it — all three reduce iron absorption.
  5. Do not exceed the stated daily serving. More is not better with this formula. Store away from direct sunlight, high temperature and humidity, and out of the reach of children.

Frequency: Daily, at the same meal

Full Ingredients

Full declaration, in the order DHC prints it (Japanese labelling orders ingredients by weight):

Reduced maltose syrup (made in Japan), manganese yeast, iodine yeast, selenium yeast, chromium yeast, molybdenum yeast, starch / shell calcium, magnesium oxide, sodium iron citrate, zinc gluconate, calcium stearate, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, copper gluconate, glycerin.

Declared amounts per daily serving of 3 tablets (1350 mg):

Calcium 250 mg (37%)
Magnesium 125 mg (39%)
Iron 7.5 mg (110%)
Zinc 6.0 mg (68%)
Copper 0.6 mg (67%)
Manganese 1.5 mg
Selenium 30.2 µg
Chromium 28.3 µg
Iodine 50.8 µg
Molybdenum 10.5 µg

Percentages in brackets are DHC's stated share of the Japanese daily reference value for that nutrient. Where DHC prints no percentage, none is shown.

Energy 1.8 kcal, protein 0.04 g, fat 0.03 g, carbohydrate 0.33 g, salt equivalent 0.04 g.

In Japan this is a nutrient function claim food. That is a self-certified category based on the nutrient content meeting a set range — it is not a drug approval and it carries no standing outside Japan.

Composition and specification as declared by DHC on its official product page.

Cautions

  • This is a food, not a medicine. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease, and it is not a substitute for a varied diet or for medical advice.
  • Iron 7.5 mg is a full daily dose. Do not take this alongside another iron supplement. If you have haemochromatosis or any iron-loading condition, do not take it at all without medical advice.
  • Iodine 50.8 µg a day. If you have a thyroid condition or are on thyroid medication, check with your doctor before starting.
  • The calcium is shell-derived, so this is not a vegan product. Zinc and copper are both present and should not be stacked with separate zinc or copper supplements.
  • If you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, breastfeeding, under medical treatment or taking prescribed medicine, ask a doctor before taking this. Stop taking it and speak to a doctor if you feel unwell after use.
  • Store away from direct sunlight, high temperature and humidity, and out of the reach of children.

FAQ

How much iron is in it?

7.5 mg in the three-tablet daily serving, which DHC states as 110% of the Japanese daily reference. That is a full dose, so read the cautions before adding it to anything else.

Is it vegan?

No. The calcium is shell-derived. The tablet base is cellulose rather than gelatin, so a vegetarian who accepts shell calcium could consider it, but a vegan should not.

Which minerals come from yeast?

Manganese, iodine, selenium, chromium and molybdenum are all delivered as mineral-enriched yeast. Calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc and copper come from mineral salts.

Can I take it with my calcium supplement?

Check the totals first. This already supplies 250 mg of calcium a day, and calcium in quantity reduces the absorption of the iron in the same tablet.

How long does one bag last?

Sixty days at three tablets a day. The bag holds 180 tablets and weighs 81 g.
