Description
NOV UV Shield EX SPF50+ PA++++ 30 g
Overview
NOV is TOKIWA Pharmaceutical's dermatology-channel brand — sold in Japan mainly through clinics and pharmacy skin counters rather than general drugstore shelves. UV Shield EX is its high-protection sunscreen: SPF50+ PA++++, filtered by titanium dioxide and zinc oxide with no chemical absorbers, in a cream rather than a milk or gel.
What sets it apart from the other non-chemical sunscreens on this site is the testing. Beyond the usual patch and allergy tests, NOV runs a stinging test and a photoallergy test — the second matters specifically for a sunscreen, since it asks whether the product itself can provoke a reaction under UV light. Fragrance-free and colourant-free.
It is waterproof, doubles as a makeup base, and still washes off with soap. Browse the full Japanese sunscreen collection.

Who Is This For?
- Sensitive or reactive skin that needs the top rating without chemical filters
- Anyone who has reacted to a sunscreen under sunlight specifically — the photoallergy test is the reason to pick this one over its neighbours
- Dry skin: this is a cream, heavier and more cushioning than the Curél milk or the ETVOS serum
- People who want one product for face, body and a child's skin
- Worth knowing: cyclopentasiloxane is second and dimethicone sixth. It is a silicone-based cream, and not the right choice if you avoid silicones.
How to Use
- Apply an even amount as the final step of your morning routine.
- For the body, dispense two pearl-sized amounts and spread evenly.
- Let it settle for a minute if you are applying makeup on top — it works as a base.
- Reapply through the day and after sweating, swimming or towel-drying.
- Remove with soap and water or your usual cleanser.
Frequency: Daily. Reapply every 2–3 hours of sun exposure and after water contact.
Full Ingredients
Leading ingredients:
Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Titanium Dioxide, Butylene Glycol, Zinc Oxide, Dimethicone, Isostearyl Neopentanoate, PEG/PPG/Polybutylene Glycol-8/5/3 Glycerin, Glycerin, Polyglyceryl-3 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tocopherol.
The filters are titanium dioxide (third) and zinc oxide (fifth), with no chemical absorber. Sodium hyaluronate and tocopherol handle the moisture side. NOV declares the formula free of UV absorbers, fragrance, colourants and alcohol.
And the part a list of only the appealing ingredients would leave out: cyclopentasiloxane is the second ingredient and dimethicone the sixth. This is a silicone-based cream. That is how a titanium-dioxide-heavy formula spreads smoothly and stays put under makeup, but if you are avoiding silicones this is not your sunscreen.
The complete declaration is printed in Japanese on the carton. Email support@tsujimotomarket.com if you need the full panel photographed before ordering.

FAQ
What is a photoallergy test, and why does it matter here?
A photoallergy test checks whether the product provokes a reaction when the treated skin is then exposed to UV. For a sunscreen — a product you wear specifically in sunlight — that is a more relevant test than a standard patch test alone. NOV runs both, plus a stinging test.
How does it compare with the Curél milk?
Both are non-chemical, both silicone-based, both for sensitive skin. NOV is a cream and richer, rated PA++++ against Curél's PA+++, and carries the photoallergy testing. Curél is a milk, lighter, quasi-drug class, and built around its pseudo-ceramide. Dry skin tends to prefer NOV; anyone wanting the ceramide angle, Curél.
It is waterproof — do I need a special remover?
No. Soap and water or your usual cleanser is enough.
Can I use it on a child?
NOV formulates it for sensitive skin including children's. Patch-test first, apply it yourself, and keep it away from eyes and mouth.
Is it authentic, and where does it ship from?
Yes. We buy NOV in Japan through retail and authorised distribution and ship it from our own stock in Kobe, with tracking. The box and label are Japanese; the English is on this page.
