Overview

This is a medicine, not a supplement and not a cosmetic. The active ingredient is felbinac, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug applied through the skin, alongside l-menthol for a cooling sensation, tocopherol acetate (vitamin E) and glycyrrhetinic acid. Fifty adhesive sheets, each 7 × 10 cm, and each can be cut to fit.

Japanese pharmacies sell felbinac patches for muscle and joint pain, and this is one of the plainer ones: a flexible fabric backing that holds on elbows, knees and wrists, and a cut-to-size format rather than a fixed shape.

Two things we will not do on this page. We will not print the active quantities: the figures in our previous description (felbinac 0.5 g, l-menthol 4.2 g per patch) cannot be right for a 7 × 10 cm sheet and were most likely a per-100-g concentration mislabelled as a per-patch amount. And we will not tell you it works, or repeat the first-person endorsement the old page carried in the shop owner's voice. How to Use

1. Read the Japanese package insert, or have it translated, before first use.
2. Peel the backing film and apply to clean, dry, unbroken skin over the painful area.
3. Cut the sheet to size if you are treating a wrist, an ankle or a finger.
4. Remove after up to 12 hours; use no more than two patches in one day.

Why no milligram figures appear here. Our previous description gave felbinac 0.5 g, l-menthol 4.2 g and tocopherol acetate 2.3 g. A 7 × 10 cm patch does not carry 4.2 g of menthol; those numbers are almost certainly a per-100-g concentration presented as a per-patch content. Rather than reprint them or guess at the correction, we have left the quantities off. They are printed on the Japanese box and in the package insert, and if you need them before you order, ask us and we will read them off a box.

Cautions

• This is an NSAID medicine. Do not use it if you have ever had asthma, hives or any allergic reaction after taking aspirin or another non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug.
• Not for children under 15, and not for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding without medical advice — topical NSAIDs are specifically restricted in late pregnancy.
• Do not apply to broken, inflamed, infected, weeping or sunburnt skin, or to skin with eczema.
• Do not cover the patch with a bandage or use a heat pad over it, and do not use it at the same time as another NSAID, whether taken by mouth or applied to the skin — the doses add up.
• Stop and see a doctor if the skin under the patch becomes red, itchy or blistered, or if the pain does not improve within about five days. Persistent pain needs a diagnosis, not a longer course of patches.
• Import restrictions apply. Many countries limit or prohibit receiving medicines by post. Check your own country's rules before ordering; we cannot clear customs on your behalf.

FAQ

Why does this page no longer tell me how well the patches work?

Because the previous version did it in the shop owner's voice, as a first-person review saying the patches genuinely relieve pain. That is an efficacy claim about a medicine, written into a product description and attributed to someone who did not write it. It is gone. What we can give you is the active ingredient, the format, and the cautions.

Why are the ingredient quantities missing?

Because the ones we had were not credible. Our old description said 4.2 g of l-menthol per patch; a 7 × 10 cm sheet does not hold 4.2 g of menthol, and the figures were almost certainly a per-100-g concentration. Rather than print a number we cannot stand behind, we left them out. They are on the box and in the insert, and we will read them to you if you ask before ordering.

Can I use these while taking ibuprofen or another painkiller?

Ask a pharmacist or doctor first. Felbinac is itself an NSAID, and using a topical NSAID alongside an oral one adds to the total dose. This is not a case where "it is only a patch" holds.

Can my teenager use them for a sports injury?

Not under 15. That is the age restriction on Japanese felbinac patches, and it is not a formality.

Will customs let this through to my country?

We cannot promise that, and this is the one product in our range where we say so plainly. Many countries restrict receiving medicines by post, some prohibit it, and the rules differ by country and sometimes by quantity. Check before you order — a parcel seized at your border is not something we can retrieve.
