Reys Whey Protein Cafe Latte, 1 kg — Good Numbers, and One Unanswered Question
Overview
This is a whey protein concentrate with a coffee-and-milk flavour built from an actual coffee extract rather than a flavouring alone, plus seven added vitamins. The numbers are good and, unusually for this catalogue, the manufacturer publishes them properly: a 30 g serving gives 21.8 g of protein for 117.9 kcal, which is a protein share of roughly 73 per cent — respectable for a concentrate rather than an isolate. The 1 kg pouch runs to about 33 servings.
The manufacturer declares production in Japan and certification to FSSC22000, the food-safety management standard.
The one question this page cannot answer. The formulation includes coffee extract, and the original instructions suggested taking a serving in the evening. Nobody publishes how much caffeine a serving contains. Those two facts do not sit well together, and until we have the figure we would not recommend an evening serving, and we would not recommend the product at all to anyone avoiding caffeine. We have asked the supplier for the number and will publish it when we have it.

Who Is This For?
- Adults training regularly who want a straightforward whey concentrate with the panel published
- People who like coffee and would rather their protein tasted of it than of vanilla or chocolate
- Anyone who wants a protein share above 70 per cent without paying isolate prices
- NOT for you if you have a milk or soy allergy — both are declared
- NOT for you if you avoid caffeine, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or want a shake before bed: this product contains coffee extract and its caffeine content is not published
How to Use
- Put 200 ml of water into a shaker first, then add the powder.
- Add three scoops, about 30 g.
- Shake for ten seconds or so. It also mixes into milk if you want it richer.
- Take it before or after training, or as a protein snack during the day.
- We would not take this one in the evening. It contains coffee extract and the caffeine content is not published — until it is, treat it as a daytime drink.
Frequency: One to three servings a day per the manufacturer. Daytime only until the caffeine figure is published.
Full Ingredients
Nutrition per 30 g serving, as published by the manufacturer: energy 117.9 kcal; protein 21.8 g; fat 1.8 g; carbohydrate 3.6 g; salt 0.24 g; vitamin B1 0.9 mg; vitamin B2 0.9 mg; vitamin B6 0.8 mg; vitamin C 50.0 mg; vitamin D 1.9 µg; niacin 4.4 mg; pantothenic acid 1.6 mg.
Declared components: whey protein concentrate (WPC — from milk), coffee extract, and the seven added vitamins above. Soy is declared by the manufacturer as an allergen present in the product.
What is missing, and we are not filling it in. There is no complete ingredient list — the manufacturer publishes active components and a nutrition panel, not a declaration. That leaves the sweetener, the emulsifier and the flavouring system unnamed. More importantly it leaves the caffeine content unquantified, on a product that contains coffee extract and whose original instructions suggested an evening serving. We have asked for both the full declaration and the caffeine figure and will publish them when they arrive.
Cautions
- Contains MILK. Whey protein concentrate is a milk protein. Do not take it if you have a milk allergy.
- Contains SOY, declared by the manufacturer. Do not take it if you have a soy allergy.
- Contains coffee extract, and the caffeine content is not published. Until we have that figure: do not take it in the evening, do not take it if you are avoiding caffeine, do not take it during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and do not give it to anyone under 18. If you are sensitive to caffeine, treat one serving as an unknown quantity rather than a small one.
- The full ingredient declaration is not published, so we cannot rule out a sweetener, emulsifier or flavouring you may wish to avoid. Ask us for a pack photo if that matters to you.
- Whey concentrate contains lactose. If you are lactose intolerant, start with half a serving.
- If you have a kidney condition, ask your doctor before adding a daily protein supplement.
- Keep the pouch sealed and dry. Discard it if the powder cakes hard or smells sour.
- Stop taking it and consult a doctor if you develop stomach upset, rash, unusual tiredness, muscle pain or dark urine.
- Do not exceed the stated daily amount. More is not better with any of these ingredients.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
- This is a food supplement, not a medicine. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease, and it is not a substitute for prescribed treatment.

FAQ
How much caffeine is in a serving?
We do not know, and that is the honest answer. The product contains coffee extract as a declared component, and neither the manufacturer nor our supplier publishes a caffeine figure per serving. We have asked and will put the number on this page when we get it. Until then our advice is the conservative one: daytime servings only, and not at all if you are avoiding caffeine, pregnant or breastfeeding.
Is 21.8 g of protein per 30 g good?
It is solid for a concentrate. That works out at about 73 per cent protein by weight, where a whey isolate typically sits around 85 to 90 per cent and a cheap blend can drop to 60. You pay less than isolate prices and get a little more fat and carbohydrate — 1.8 g and 3.6 g per serving here — which is a reasonable trade unless you have a specific reason to want an isolate.
Why is there no full ingredient list?
Because the manufacturer publishes active components and a nutrition panel rather than a full declaration, and we are not going to invent the rest. It means we cannot tell you which sweetener, emulsifier or flavouring system is used. If you avoid a specific additive, ask us before ordering and we will photograph the pack. We would rather say 'we do not know' than write a list that reads plausibly and is not true.
Can I take three servings a day?
The manufacturer's range is one to three, so three is within it on the protein side. The caffeine side is the reason we would not: three servings means three unquantified doses of coffee extract. Until the caffeine figure is published, one or two servings taken during the day is the sensible ceiling, and if you want more protein than that, take it from a caffeine-free powder.
Is it halal or suitable for vegetarians?
Vegetarian: on the declared components, yes — whey is a dairy protein and no meat-derived ingredient is named. Vegan: no. On halal, we cannot make a statement: there is no full ingredient declaration, no certification, and no published information on the enzyme used in the whey processing or on the flavouring carriers. What we can tell you is exactly what is declared, which is above, and that the gaps are gaps rather than reassurances.
