Description

Rohto Deoco Scalp Care Conditioner 350 g — Japanese Conditioner for Scalp Odour Care

Overview

The conditioner that goes with the Deoco shampoo, in a 350 g tub. It does the ordinary thing a conditioner does — smooths the cuticle, removes static, makes the hair combable — and carries the same white clay and the same lactone-containing fragrance as the shampoo, so the scent survives the rinse.

Same two corrections as its partner. The size on our page was 450 g and the product is 350 g. And the claim that lactone "replenishes youthful scent" describes a perfume as if it were something your scalp starts producing again. It is not; the fragrance adds the smell, and the clay does the cleaning. See also our Japanese haircare range.

Key Benefits

  • ✓ Same fragrance as the shampoo, so the scent carries through the whole wash rather than being rinsed away
  • ✓ White clay in the conditioning base as well as in the shampoo
  • ✓ Removes static and leaves hair combable — the plain job a conditioner is actually for
  • ✓ Can be worked lightly into the scalp, not only the lengths, unlike heavier conditioners
  • ✓ Correct size stated at last: 350 g
  • ✓ Shipped from our base in Kobe, Japan with tracking, in the Japanese domestic packaging

Who Is This For?

  • Users of the Deoco shampoo who want the scent to last past the rinse
  • People with hair that goes static and flyaway after washing
  • Anyone who wants a conditioner light enough to use near the roots
  • Users who like a strongly perfumed finish on clean hair
  • Not for: anyone sensitive to fragrance — the perfume is central to this product, not incidental

How to Use

  1. Shampoo first, then squeeze the excess water out of the hair.
  2. Take an appropriate amount and apply from mid-lengths to ends.
  3. A small amount can be worked lightly into the scalp if odour is your main concern.
  4. Leave one to three minutes.
  5. Rinse thoroughly, including at the roots, where residue causes the flat greasy look.

Frequency: Every wash, or as often as you use the shampoo

Full Ingredients

Named components: white clay (kaolin); moisturising agents; a lactone-containing fragrance, the same one used in the shampoo.

Rohto does not publish the complete INCI for Deoco online. The full list is printed on the tub you receive; send us a photo and we will translate it, or ask before ordering if you need to check a specific ingredient.

Cautions

  • Strongly fragranced by design — not a good choice if you are sensitive to perfume in hair products.
  • Avoid the eyes; rinse with plenty of water on contact.
  • Stop and consult a doctor if the scalp reddens, itches or flakes.
  • Rinse fully at the roots — leftover conditioner at the scalp is the usual cause of hair looking greasy the next day.
  • Keep out of reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight and high temperatures.

FAQ

What is the "lactone" in Deoco actually doing?

It is perfume, and Rohto is straightforward about that on the Japanese packaging even where the English-language copy around this product usually is not. Lactones are a family of sweet-smelling compounds that Japanese research associated with the body odour of women in their teens and twenties, and which become scarcer with age. Deoco's fragrance contains them. So the product does add that smell to your hair — it does not cause your scalp to start making it again. The odour-control side of the formula is a separate mechanism: white clay adsorbs oxidised sebum during the wash.

Is "age-related scalp odour" a real thing or a marketing category?

Both, and it is worth separating them. The underlying chemistry is real and well documented in Japan: sebum composition changes with age, and certain fatty acids oxidise into compounds — 2-nonenal is the one usually named — with a distinctive smell that concentrates at the scalp and behind the ears, because that is where sebum is densest. What is marketing is the implication that a shampoo reverses it. This one washes the oxidised sebum off and leaves a scent behind, which is a real and modest thing to do, and it needs repeating every wash.

Do I have to buy the matching shampoo and treatment together?

No — each works on its own, and the pairing is a marketing structure as much as a formulation one. What is true is narrower: a shampoo that leaves the cuticle slightly acidified gives the treatment that follows a marginally better surface to sit on, and the two share a fragrance so they do not fight each other in the shower. If your budget stretches to one of the pair, buy the treatment: it stays on the hair, while shampoo is on the head for ninety seconds and then goes down the drain.

Is this an authentic Japanese product?

Yes. We buy through Japanese distribution channels and ship from our base in Kobe, Japan. We do not sell grey-market or parallel-import stock, and the packaging you receive is the Japanese domestic packaging, with Japanese-language labelling.

Will I pay customs duty or import VAT?

That depends on your country and on the declared value of the parcel, not on us. We ship from Japan with a correct customs declaration and full tracking; any duty or import VAT your country charges is collected by your local carrier or customs office on delivery. Check your national de-minimis threshold before ordering if you want to avoid a surprise.
