The Brightening UV Gel NA is the tinted member of the Anessa line: a lavender-pink gel that sits at SPF50+ PA++++ and, unlike the clear Perfect UV gel, is registered in Japan as a 医薬部外品 (quasi-drug). It means two actives are present at approved concentrations — tranexamic acid and dipotassium glycyrrhizate — and that Shiseido may make the Japanese 美白 claim: helping to prevent UV-related dark spots, not lightening skin that is already pigmented.
The 2026 version reworks the pearl blend — blue, pink and clear together — to correct a yellow cast without tipping the face grey. Practically, the tone-up is what you see in the first ten seconds and the tranexamic acid is what you are buying for the next three months.

How to Use
- Shake the tube gently before each use.
- Dispense roughly two finger-lengths for face and neck — the Japanese dermatology benchmark of about 2 mg/cm².
- Smooth evenly over clean, moisturised skin as the final step of your morning routine.
- Blend fully. Less product gives colour correction only; more gives a dewier, more luminous finish.
- Reapply every two to three hours in the sun, and after sweating or towel-drying.
Frequency: Daily, year-round. Reapply every 2–3 hours during sun exposure. The tone-up reads best on bare skin or over toner, without a heavy primer underneath.

Japanese quasi-drug labelling does not follow INCI descending order, and the carton is the complete list.
Read this if you avoid octinoxate. Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, eighth in that list, is octinoxate — one of the two filters restricted in Hawaii and Palau. This gel contains it. The clear Perfect UV gel in the same line does not. If you are buying Anessa specifically to avoid octinoxate, buy the clear gel, not this one.
The formula also contains ethanol.

Is “m-tranexamic acid” different from tranexamic acid?
No. m-Tranexamic acid is Shiseido's own trade name for tranexamic acid; the molecule is the same one you will see in other Japanese quasi-drugs. Seeing both spellings on one page is what makes it look like two ingredients.
How is this different from the Perfect UV Skincare Gel NB?
NB is colourless and cosmetic-class, built around moisture and water resistance. NA is a quasi-drug with a lavender-pink tone-up and two approved actives. The UV rating is the same; the filter lists are not identical.
Will it leave a pink cast?
Blended properly, the lavender-pink neutralises yellow rather than sitting on top as colour. Deeper skin tones should apply sparingly and blend down the neck, since a lavender corrector can read ashy if over-applied.
Does the water-resistance claim match the Perfect UV gel?
No. Shiseido states water and sweat resistance for this gel but does not print a duration on it, so any minute figure you see quoted for it has come from somewhere else in the range. Reapply on the same schedule as any sunscreen — every two to three hours in the sun.
