Description

Spa Treatment PREMIUM 111 — Japanese Fermented Plant Paste with 111 Botanicals, 30 Sticks

Overview

Thirty single-dose sticks of a thick fermented plant paste — 111 plant ingredients, from wild herbs and vegetables to fruit, grains and seaweed, fermented in ceramic vessels using traditional Japanese method and not heat-treated afterwards. Each stick holds about 3 g of the fermented plant complex, plus concentrated yomogi (Japanese mugwort) extract, plant digestive enzymes and galacto-oligosaccharides.

One thing to be straight about, because the previous version of this page was not. Products in this category are marketed on the idea that you are taking in "live enzymes". Enzymes are proteins, and stomach acid unfolds them: what reaches your intestine is amino acids, not working enzymes. What a fermented plant paste plausibly does deliver is the products of the fermentation itself, plant fibre, oligosaccharides and polyphenols — which is a reasonable thing to eat, just not the thing the category name suggests. See also our Japanese supplements and Japanese food products.

Key Benefits

  • ✓ 111 plant ingredients fermented together in ceramic vessels by traditional Japanese method, not a powder blend mixed after the fact
  • ✓ Not heat-treated after fermentation, which preserves the fermentation products and the polyphenol content
  • ✓ Concentrated yomogi (Japanese mugwort) extract, a long-standing ingredient in Japanese herbal preparations
  • ✓ Galacto-oligosaccharides, a well-studied prebiotic fibre that gut bacteria ferment
  • ✓ Single-dose stick format: no measuring, no spoon, travels well
  • ✓ Shipped from our base in Kobe, Japan with tracking, in the Japanese domestic packaging

Who Is This For?

  • Anyone already interested in Japanese fermented foods — miso, natto, koji — who wants a concentrated version in stick form
  • People who want a prebiotic fibre source that is not a powder to be stirred into water
  • Anyone whose diet is short on variety in plants and who would like a broader botanical intake
  • Travellers who want to keep a routine without carrying jars
  • Not for you if you are looking for a detox, a weight-loss aid or a treatment for a digestive condition — this is a food, and a digestive complaint needs a doctor

How to Use

  1. Take one stick a day.
  2. Tear it open and take the paste directly, or stir it into water, yoghurt or a smoothie if you prefer.
  3. Any time of day works. Some people find it easiest to attach it to breakfast so it is not forgotten.
  4. Give it four to eight weeks before deciding — fibre and fermented foods take time to change anything you would notice.
  5. Do not take more than one stick a day.

Frequency: One stick a day. If your gut is not used to added fibre, expect a settling-in period of a week or so.

Full Ingredients

Components declared per daily dose: fermented plant complex (111 types of herbs, vegetables, fruit, grains and seaweed) — approximately 3 g; concentrated yomogi (Japanese mugwort) extract; plant digestive enzymes (five types); galacto-oligosaccharides.

The manufacturer does not publish a full quantified ingredient breakdown or a complete allergen list online. Given that the complex contains 111 plant ingredients, that matters: if you have any plant allergy, read the Japanese label on the box before your first stick, or send us a photo and we will translate it. We will not guess at what is in the remaining 110.

Cautions

  • The complex contains 111 plant ingredients and the manufacturer does not publish a full allergen list online. If you have any plant or seaweed allergy, read the Japanese label on the box before your first dose.
  • Adding fibre can cause bloating or wind for the first week. Introduce it gradually and drink enough water.
  • Yomogi is mugwort. If you are allergic to plants in the daisy family (ragweed, chamomile, chrysanthemum), take this with caution or avoid it.
  • Not a substitute for a varied diet, for sun protection or for medical treatment. Nothing here diagnoses, treats, cures or prevents any disease.
  • Do not exceed the stated daily amount. Taking more does not work faster.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, under medical care or taking prescription medication, ask your doctor before starting.
  • Stop taking it and consult a doctor if you notice any unusual reaction, rash or digestive upset.
  • Check your own country's import rules before ordering. Some ingestible products cannot legally be imported for personal use in every jurisdiction.
  • Keep out of reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and humidity, and close the pack after each use.

FAQ

Do the "live enzymes" survive being swallowed?

Not as enzymes, no. Enzymes are proteins, and the acid in your stomach unfolds proteins — that is the point of stomach acid. What arrives in your intestine is amino acids and peptides, useful as nutrition but no longer catalysing anything. This is worth knowing because the whole category is sold on the enzyme idea. What a genuinely fermented, unheated plant paste does bring is the products of fermentation: organic acids, oligosaccharides, plant fibre and polyphenols. That is a decent reason to eat it. The enzyme story is not.

Do ingestible beauty products actually work?

The honest answer is: less dramatically than the marketing suggests, and not instead of skincare. Oral ceramides, collagen peptides and vitamin C are digested like any other food component, and the trials that exist mostly report small, gradual changes in skin hydration measured over eight to twelve weeks in people whose diet was lacking. Taken as a supplement to a decent diet, sun protection and a moisturiser, they may add something. Taken instead of those, they will not. Nothing here treats a skin condition.

Is this product halal or suitable for vegans?

The declared ingredient list is plant- and mineral-derived, with no animal ingredients, so it fits a vegan routine. It carries no halal certification, however — Japanese domestic cosmetics are rarely certified — so if certification itself matters to you, this product does not have it.

The packaging is in Japanese — how do I know what I am using?

The carton and bottle carry Japanese-language labelling, because this is stock made for the Japanese domestic market. Where an ingredient list appears on this page, it is translated from that labelling or from the manufacturer's own published data; where the manufacturer does not publish one, the ingredients section says so rather than filling the gap. Either way, send us a photo of anything unclear on the box after delivery and we will translate it, and ask us before ordering if you need the full label list first.

Will I pay customs duty or import VAT?

That depends on your country and on the declared value of the parcel, not on us. We ship from Japan with a correct customs declaration and full tracking; any duty or import VAT your country charges is collected by your local carrier or customs office on delivery. Check your national de-minimis threshold before ordering if you want to avoid a surprise.
