Description

Starry Eye Mild Gel Cream

Overview

This is a large-format, do-everything gel: a light, transparent, unfragranced moisturiser meant for face, body, scalp and hair, and for everyone in the household using the same jar. Seven plant extracts, organic rooibos, ceramide, squalane and two calming ingredients on a simple glycerin and BG base.

The appeal is the absence of drama. It is not a treatment for anything, it does not sting, and it works as a hydration layer wherever skin feels tight. Two disclosures we owe you appear in the ingredient section below. See our Japanese moisturisers.

Key Benefits

  • Seven plant extracts — chamomile, centella, liquorice, green tea, Japanese knotweed, rosemary and skullcap — plus organic rooibos, which is where the faint natural scent comes from
  • Ceramide and squalane for barrier support and moisture retention, alongside water-soluble collagen
  • Allantoin and potassium glycyrrhizinate as the two calming ingredients, useful on skin that flushes
  • Light transparent gel that absorbs without stickiness, so it layers under makeup and works on a scalp without greasing hair
  • No added fragrance, no colourant, no mineral oil
  • One large jar covering face, body, scalp and hair for a household — the practical case for buying this format

Who Is This For?

  • Dry, dehydrated or easily irritated skin that wants a simple hydration layer without actives
  • Households buying one product for several people and several body parts
  • Anyone dealing with a dry, itchy scalp who does not want an oil in their hair
  • Travellers who would rather carry one jar than four tubes
  • Not for vegans — the formula contains water-soluble collagen

How to Use

  1. Face: after cleansing, apply a generous amount and let it settle for a minute or two. It can stay on overnight without rinsing.
  2. As a mask: apply, massage briefly, cover with cling film for three minutes, then wipe the residue with a warm towel.
  3. Body: apply to dry or sensitive areas, spreading gently.
  4. Scalp and hair: after washing, work through towel-dried lengths, or rub gently into the scalp where it itches.

Frequency: As often as needed — this is a moisturiser, not a treatment, and there is no ramp-up schedule.

Full Ingredients

Full ingredient list as published: water, glycerin, DPG, triethylhexanoin, BG, dioctyldodecyl lauroyl glutamate, cetyl ethylhexanoate, rooibos extract, chamomile flower extract, Centella asiatica extract, liquorice root extract, tea leaf extract, Japanese knotweed root extract, rosemary leaf extract, skullcap root extract, water-soluble collagen, cerebroside, squalane, carbomer, xanthan gum, hydrogenated lecithin, sodium hydroxide, allantoin, potassium glycyrrhizinate, tocopheryl acetate, methylparaben.

Two disclosures. Water-soluble collagen is an animal protein, so this is not a vegan product — the previous version of this page called it plant-based and said nothing about the collagen. And the preservative is methylparaben, which matters if you avoid parabens. Hydrogenated lecithin is usually soy-derived.

Ingredient list as declared by the manufacturer. Formulations are occasionally revised, so always read the list printed on the package you receive.

Cautions

  • Contains animal-derived ingredients — not suitable for vegans.
  • The formula includes a paraben preservative — worth knowing if you prefer paraben-free skincare.
  • This product contains no sun filters and does not protect skin from UV — apply your sunscreen separately.
  • Jar packaging used by several people: take product with clean, dry hands or a spatula to keep it sanitary.
  • Contains rosemary and green tea extracts — patch test if you react to botanical extracts.
  • Patch test on the inner forearm before first use, especially if your skin is reactive.
  • Discontinue use and consult a doctor if redness, itching, swelling or persistent stinging occurs.
  • Avoid contact with the eyes. If the product enters the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
  • Do not apply to broken, sunburned or actively inflamed skin.
  • Keep out of reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight and high temperatures.

FAQ

Your page used to say the size was to be confirmed. What is it?

That was an internal note that went live by mistake — the previous version of this page carried the line "to be confirmed, specify the desired volume when adding the product" in the volume field, which was a message from us to ourselves rather than to you. We are sorry. The size available is shown on the product listing itself; if it is not clear there, message us and we will confirm before you order.

Can I really use it on my face and my scalp?

Yes, and that is the point of the format. It is a light humectant gel with no actives and no fragrance, which makes it hard to misuse. On the face it is a hydration layer that needs nothing over it in humid weather and benefits from a cream over it in winter. On a dry, itchy scalp it works because it is not an oil — it absorbs rather than sitting in the hair. What it will not do is anything targeted, so keep your sunscreen, your retinoid, and whatever else you use for a specific problem.

Is it suitable for children?

The formula is mild — no fragrance, no colourant, no ethanol, no actives — and Japanese households do use products like this across the family. That said, we are not in a position to give advice about a specific child's skin, especially with eczema or a known allergy in the picture. Read the ingredient list above with your paediatrician or pharmacist if there is any history of reactions.

The packaging is in Japanese — how do I know what I am using?

The carton and bottle carry Japanese-language labelling, because this is stock made for the Japanese domestic market. Where an ingredient list appears on this page, it is translated from that labelling or from the manufacturer's own published data; where the manufacturer does not publish one, the ingredients section says so rather than filling the gap. Either way, send us a photo of anything unclear on the box after delivery and we will translate it, and ask us before ordering if you need the full label list first.

Will I pay customs duty or import VAT?

That depends on your country and on the declared value of the parcel, not on us. We ship from Japan with a correct customs declaration and full tracking; any duty or import VAT your country charges is collected by your local carrier or customs office on delivery. Check your national de-minimis threshold before ordering if you want to avoid a surprise.
