This is Japanese camellia oil in its plainest possible form: one ingredient, pressed from the seed of Camellia japonica, bottled with nothing added. Oshima Tsubaki has been making it on Izu Ōshima since 1927, and in Japan the 40 ml bottle is a household item rather than a specialist product — kept in the bathroom and used on hair ends, dry patches of skin, cuticles and split ends as needed.

How to Use
- Hair, daily: on damp towel-dried hair, warm 1 drop (short), 1–2 (medium) or 2–3 (long) between the palms and stroke through the mid-lengths and ends, then dry.
- Hair mask, weekly: work 15–30 ml through dry hair, leave 5–10 minutes, then shampoo twice.
- Scalp massage: warm 5–10 ml, massage into the roots, leave 5 minutes and shampoo out.
- Face or body: press a few drops into skin that is still damp from the bath.
- Make-up removal: massage onto dry skin, then rinse with your usual cleanser.
Frequency: Hair and skin daily as needed; the deep mask and scalp massage once a week.
