Description
Tune Makers Milk Serum for Sensitive Skin, 120 ml
Overview
An emulsion built around five soothing and barrier-supporting components: licorice root extract, barley extract, ceramides, squalane and hyaluronic acid. It is positioned for dry and reactive skin, and the composition matches that positioning — nothing in it is an exfoliant, a brightener or a retinoid. See also our Japanese moisturisers.
Key Benefits
- ✓ Ceramides — the lipid class the skin barrier is actually made of, not a humectant substitute for it
- ✓ Squalane, a light emollient that is well tolerated by reactive skin
- ✓ Licorice root extract, one of the better-established cosmetic soothing botanicals
- ✓ Barley extract and hyaluronic acid for surface hydration
- ✓ Emulsion texture — applies after lotion and before cream, or alone if your skin is not very dry
- ✓ 120 ml, enough for face and neck through a season

Who Is This For?
- Dry, flaky or easily reddened skin
- Anyone whose barrier is recovering after an over-active routine
- Winter, when a lotion alone stops being enough
- People who want ceramides without buying a heavy cream
- Note: contains barley extract — see Cautions if you avoid gluten-bearing grains
How to Use
- Cleanse and apply your lotion
- Take a coin-sized amount into the palm
- Warm it briefly and press it over the face
- Follow with an emulsion, milk or cream if your skin is very dry
- Use it on the neck as well — that skin dries at the same rate and is usually forgotten
Frequency: Morning and evening
Full Ingredients
Declared components: licorice root extract, barley extract, ceramides, squalane and hyaluronic acid, in an emulsion base. The manufacturer publishes these five as the formula's essences rather than a ranked INCI list for the international market. Read the list printed on the bottle you receive; send us a photo and we will translate it.
Ingredient list as declared by the manufacturer. Formulations are occasionally revised, so always read the list printed on the package you receive.
Cautions
- Patch test on the inner forearm before first use, especially if your skin is reactive.
- Discontinue use and consult a doctor if redness, itching, swelling or persistent stinging occurs.
- Avoid contact with the eyes. If the product enters the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
- Do not apply to broken, sunburned or actively inflamed skin.
- Keep out of reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight and high temperatures.
- The previous description said licorice root extract was "indicated for rosacea, acne, atopic dermatitis, eczema, hyperpigmentation" and that hyaluronic acid "promotes scar healing". Those are medical claims and this is a cosmetic. Removed. Licorice-derived ingredients are genuinely soothing in cosmetic terms and that is what we say instead.
- Contains barley extract. Barley is a gluten-bearing grain. Gluten is not absorbed through intact skin and topical exposure is not a coeliac risk in the way food is, but people with coeliac disease often prefer to avoid it in products used around the mouth, and anyone with a barley or grain contact allergy should treat this as relevant. The previous description listed barley purely as a benefit.
- This is a moisturising product with no sun filters — it does not protect skin from UV. Apply sunscreen separately in the morning.
- If your skin is currently inflamed or broken, a moisturiser is supportive care and not a treatment. Persistent eczema, rosacea or dermatitis is a conversation with a dermatologist, not a product choice.

FAQ
Why ceramides rather than more hyaluronic acid?
Because they do different jobs. Hyaluronic acid holds water at the surface; ceramides are part of the lipid matrix that stops that water leaving. Skin that flakes and reddens usually has a barrier problem rather than a water problem, and adding more humectant to a leaky barrier is like filling a bath without the plug.
Is squalane the same as squalene?
Almost. Squalene is the unsaturated form and oxidises quickly; squalane is the hydrogenated, stable version used in skincare, and the ingredient in cosmetics today is normally derived from olives or sugarcane rather than shark liver. If shark-derived squalane is a concern for you, the honest position is that the manufacturer does not publish the source here — ask before buying if it is decisive.
Can I use this if I have eczema?
It is a moisturiser, and a well-chosen moisturiser is a genuine part of eczema care — but it is supportive, not therapeutic. It has no medicated active and makes no treatment claim. If you are managing diagnosed eczema, keep using what your doctor prescribed and treat this as the daily moisturiser layer, ideally after checking the ingredient list with them.
Is this product halal or suitable for vegans?
The declared ingredient list is plant- and mineral-derived, with no animal ingredients, so it fits a vegan routine. It carries no halal certification, however — Japanese domestic cosmetics are rarely certified — so if certification itself matters to you, this product does not have it.
The packaging is in Japanese — how do I know what I am using?
The carton and bottle carry Japanese-language labelling, because this is stock made for the Japanese domestic market. The ingredient list and directions on this page are translated from that labelling. If anything on the box is unclear after delivery, send us a photo and we will translate it for you.
