Do ingestible beauty products actually work?

The honest answer is: less dramatically than the marketing suggests, and not instead of skincare. Oral ceramides, collagen peptides and vitamin C are digested like any other food component, and the trials that exist mostly report small, gradual changes in skin hydration measured over eight to twelve weeks in people whose diet was lacking. Is oral ceramide the same as a ceramide cream?

No, and they are not interchangeable. A ceramide cream puts lipids directly into the outer layer of skin where the barrier is; an oral glucosyl ceramide is digested, and the research interest is in whether the resulting building blocks support ceramide production from the inside over weeks. The published trials in this area are mostly small and report modest improvements in skin water content. Treat it as something you add to a routine that already has a moisturiser in it, not as a way to skip the cream.
