Dosing differs from loxoprofen tape — check which one you have. The Japanese label for this pad says 1日2回を限度として: up to twice a day. Loxonin EX Tape, which we also stock, is once a day with a ceiling of four. People who keep both in the cupboard mix the two up, so we now state the dosing on the face of both cards.

How to Use

1. Check the skin is clean, dry and unbroken.
2. Peel the plastic film off the adhesive side.
3. Place the pad over the painful area and smooth it down from the centre outward so no edge lifts.
4. One pad per site. Change it rather than layering a second pad on top of the first.
5. Peel it off slowly along the direction of hair growth; the softer adhesive helps, but slow still hurts less.

Frequency: Up to twice a day, as the Japanese label states (1日2回を限度として). Stop and see a doctor if there is no improvement after 5–6 days. Not more than two weeks continuously.

Full Ingredients

Active ingredients per 100 g of plaster: indomethacin 1.0 g; arnica tincture 1 mL (equivalent to 0.2 g arnica); l-menthol 1.2 g. All three are declared actives on a Class 2 medicine, not botanical decoration.

Excipients: partially saponified polyvinyl alcohol, methyl acrylate / 2-ethylhexyl acrylate copolymer resin, polyoxyethylene nonylphenyl ether, partially neutralised polyacrylate, carmellose sodium, sorbitan oleate, and others as listed on the package insert.

Cautions

• Class 2 OTC medicine (第2類医薬品) in Japan. Its status in your country may be different — check before importing.
• Do not use if you are under 15.
• Do not use if you have ever had an allergic reaction to this product or its ingredients.
• Do not use if you have ever had asthma brought on by any analgesic, antipyretic, cold remedy or topical anti-inflammatory. This is an absolute contraindication, not a caution.
• Do not apply near the eyes, on mucous membranes, on eczema, rashes, broken skin, athlete's foot or ringworm, or on any infected area.
• Ask a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are pregnant or may be pregnant, breastfeeding, elderly, under treatment, or have kidney or liver disease.

• Stop and consult a doctor if a rash, redness, itching or swelling appears where the patch was applied.
• External use only. Keep out of reach of children. Store away from sunlight, heat and damp.

What does TIAAS actually do?

It is Kowa's name for the adhesive system. Kowa's claim is a larger contact area between pad and skin, giving firm adhesion with a softer removal than a conventional tape. That is an adhesion property. It is not a claim about how well the medicine works, and the two are easy to blur.

Can I still use a pad if it has folded onto itself?

Kowa says the adhesive surfaces can be separated again. Treat that as a rescue for a mishandled pad, not as licence to move a pad around the body — each pad is one application.
