Overview
The RF Photo Plus EX is Ya-Man's flagship home facial appliance. It combines radiofrequency warming, electrical muscle stimulation, red LED light, ion cleansing, iontophoresis and a cooling plate into a single hand-held head, and it steps through six preset programmes: cleansing, moisturising, eye-area care, EMS lifting, LED therapy and cooling. It is a serious piece of consumer hardware and it is popular in Japan for good reason.
It is also an appliance that passes radiofrequency energy and electrical current through your face, which is why this page opens with the exclusions rather than the benefits. If you have a pacemaker or any implanted electronic device, this appliance is not for you and no setting makes it safe. That is the first thing on the page because it is the one thing that cannot be worked around.
Two further facts worth knowing before you order. It is a Japanese domestic 100 V appliance. And it cannot be used without an RF conductive gel, which is not in the box — the head has to stay wet or the radiofrequency mode will not track properly and the skin can heat unevenly.
Read this before you order: this is a Japanese domestic-market appliance and it is built for 100 V. Japanese mains supply is 100 volts at 50 or 60 Hz, with a flat two-pin Type A plug. Most of Europe, the Middle East, Russia and Central Asia run at 220-240 V. Connecting a 100 V appliance to a 230 V socket through a plug adapter alone will destroy it, usually within seconds, and can cause a fire. A plug adapter changes the shape of the pins and nothing else. What you need is a step-down transformer rated comfortably above the appliance's wattage. If you are in North America (120 V) or Taiwan (110 V) the margin is small but it is still not 100 V, and the manufacturer does not certify use outside Japan. We would rather lose the sale than have you learn this after delivery.
What this page will not tell you is that the appliance forms new collagen fibres, smooths scars and post-acne marks, inhibits acne or delivers “non-invasive skin lifting”. Those are outcomes a clinic markets; they are not what a consumer appliance can promise you, and Ya-Man’s own Japanese labelling does not promise them either. What the appliance does is warm, stimulate, cool and help you work product into the skin, and people who use it consistently generally report firmer-feeling, better-toned skin. That is the honest version.

The manual, the on-device labelling and the safety notices are in Japanese only. There is no English, Russian, German or Arabic manual in the box, and the manufacturer does not publish one. Send us a photo of any page you need and we will translate it, but for an appliance that carries medical contraindications you should assume you will be operating it without a manual in your own language.

Who Is This For?
- Right for you if you already have a settled skincare routine and want a device to work product in and finish with, and you are willing to use it two or three times a week for months before judging it.
- Right for you if you are on a 100 V supply, or you already own a step-down transformer and know how to size one.
- Right for you if you are comfortable buying a conductive gel separately and reordering it — the appliance is unusable without one.
- Not for you if you have a pacemaker, an implanted defibrillator or any other implanted electronic device. This is absolute.
- Not for you if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are under 18, have metal or silicone implants or gold threads in the treatment area, have active acne, rosacea, an active infection or fever, are under treatment for cancer, or have poorly controlled diabetes or hypertension.
- Not for you if you want a one-week result, or a substitute for a clinical procedure. It is neither.
How to Use
- Confirm your mains voltage first. On 220–240 V, connect through a step-down transformer rated above the appliance's draw — never a bare plug adapter.
- Read the contraindication list above in full before the first use, not after.
- Cleanse and dry the face. Do not use the appliance over makeup or sunscreen.
- Apply RF conductive gel in a thin, even layer across the area you are working on. The gel is bought separately.
- Select the programme, then set the LEVEL to 1. Every programme is meant to be started at level 1 on the first session, whatever level you end up at later.
- Work in slow passes over one section at a time, keeping the head in contact with gel the whole time. As the gel dries, add a little more so the tip stays wet.
- If you feel burning rather than warmth, stop that pass and switch to the cooling mode. Mild tingling in the EMS and ion modes is the current and is expected; burning is not.
- Rinse the gel off, finish with your usual moisturiser, and wipe the head clean. Never run the appliance under a tap — it is not waterproof.
Frequency: Ya-Man recommends 2–3 sessions a week. More is not better with radiofrequency; give the skin the days in between.
Full Ingredients
This is an appliance, so there is no ingredient list. What matters instead is the consumable, and it deserves more than a footnote.
RF conductive gel — required, sold separately, not in the box. Radiofrequency needs a conductive medium between the electrode and the skin. Without gel the electrode drags, the energy does not spread evenly and the skin can heat in patches. Any gel sold for RF or ultrasound use will conduct; Ya-Man sells its own. Budget for reordering it — a session uses a noticeable amount.
What is in the box. Ya-Man does not publish a component list for the international market, and we do not want to guess at whether a given lot ships with a charging cradle, a pouch or a sample of gel. Ask us before ordering if the contents matter to you and we will open a unit and photograph what is actually in it.
Serums and lotions you use with the iontophoresis mode are your own. Avoid anything with a high acid or retinoid content on a day you are using RF — warmed skin with active exfoliants on it is the usual route to irritation.
Cautions
- Pacemakers and implanted electronic devices: do not use. Radiofrequency and EMS both put energy through tissue and can interfere with an implanted device. There is no safe setting.
- Do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Do not use if you are under 18.
- Do not use over metal or silicone implants, dermal fillers or gold thread lifts in the treatment area.
- Do not use over broken, sunburned or actively inflamed skin, over active acne or rosacea, or on an area treated with a chemical peel, microdermabrasion or a device procedure until it has fully settled.
- Do not use during an acute infection or fever, while under treatment for cancer, or if you have poorly controlled diabetes or hypertension, a connective tissue disease or a tendency to keloid scarring.
- Avoid on the day of, and the days around, deliberate sun tanning or a tanning bed.
- Not waterproof. Never use in the bathroom, near a filled basin or in a humid room, and never rinse the body of the appliance.
- Keep clear of the eyes themselves. The eye programme is for the skin around the eye socket, not the eyelid or the eyeball.
- Japanese domestic 100 V appliance. On a 220-240 V supply it requires a step-down transformer; a plug adapter alone will destroy it and may cause a fire.
- Manual and all safety labelling are in Japanese only; no other language is supplied.

FAQ
I have a pacemaker. Can I use it on a low setting?
No. This is the one question on this page with a flat answer. Radiofrequency and electrical muscle stimulation both pass energy through tissue, and an implanted pacemaker or defibrillator can be interfered with by that energy. Intensity level does not change the principle. The same applies to any other implanted electronic device. If you are unsure what you have implanted, ask your cardiologist before you order, not after.
Will it work in my country?
Only through a correctly sized step-down transformer. It is built for the Japanese 100 V supply. On 220–240 V a plug adapter alone will destroy it and can cause a fire, because an adapter only changes the shape of the pins and does not touch the voltage. Buy a transformer rated comfortably above the appliance's power draw, or do not buy the appliance. In North America at 120 V and Taiwan at 110 V the gap is small but the manufacturer still does not certify use outside Japan.
Do I need to buy anything else before I can use it?
Yes — an RF conductive gel, which is not in the box. Radiofrequency needs a conductive layer between electrode and skin; without it the head drags and the skin heats unevenly. Any gel sold for RF or ultrasound work will do the job, and Ya-Man sells its own. Plan on it as a running cost rather than a one-off, because each session uses a fair amount.
Does it build collagen or remove wrinkles permanently?
We are not going to tell you that. Forming new collagen fibres and delivering non-invasive lifting describe clinical outcomes, and this is a consumer appliance. What it does is warm the skin with radiofrequency, stimulate with EMS, light it with red LED, cool it and help you drive product in. Used two or three times a week over months, most people describe skin that feels firmer and looks better toned. Any effect depends on continued use and fades when you stop.
Will I pay customs duty or import VAT?
That depends on your country and on the declared value of the parcel, not on us. We ship from Japan with a correct customs declaration and full tracking; any duty or import VAT your country charges is collected by your local carrier or customs office on delivery. Check your national de-minimis threshold before ordering if you want to avoid a surprise.
