Contains edible bird's nest. The ingredient that distinguishes this model from the 9000 is enzyme-treated 燕窩 — the hardened nest material of cave swiftlets, which is made from the birds' own saliva. It has been used in Chinese and Southeast Asian tonic cooking for centuries and it is an animal product, so this is not a vegetarian product. Alongside it: pineapple fruit extract containing ceramide, L-tyrosine, L-cystine, and hihatsu (Java long pepper) extract.
Who makes it. Abe Yoando Pharmaceutical (株式会社阿部養庵堂薬品), based in Adachi, Tokyo. The name goes back to 阿部養庵貞維, who in 1731 was a dispenser and prescriber of kampō medicine and served as 御典医 — official physician — to the Matsudaira house. The company as it exists today was incorporated in 1984 under a different name and took its present one in 2023. It has sold NMN since 2019, and is reported to have been the first Japanese company to clear NMN through customs as a food.
What this is, legally. In Japan this is an ordinary food (一般食品), not a 機能性表示食品 with a filed function claim, so neither the maker nor we may tell you what it does in the body — and this page does not. In the United States, NMN is lawful in dietary supplements: the FDA confirmed on 29 September 2025 that it is not excluded from the dietary supplement definition, reversing its 2022 position. In the European Union, NMN is an unauthorised novel food and may not lawfully be placed on the EU market; EFSA's positive safety opinion of 13 May 2026 covers one specific applicant's NMN and does not extend to other producers.

Edible bird's nest is an animal product. What is edible bird's nest, exactly?
It is the nest of a cave swiftlet, built almost entirely from the bird's own hardened saliva rather than from twigs. Harvested nests are cleaned and processed; here the extract has been enzyme-treated. It has been a prized tonic ingredient in Chinese and Southeast Asian cooking for centuries. It is an animal product, so this supplement is not vegetarian.
Is this vegetarian? The capsule says plant-based.
The capsule shell is plant-derived HPMC, but the contents are not vegetarian: edible bird's nest is an animal product. The two facts sit side by side on the pack and it is easy to read the first and miss the second.
Should I take this or the 9000?
The 18000 is twice the NMN — 600 mg a day against 300 mg — and four capsules instead of two, and it carries bird's nest, pineapple ceramide, L-tyrosine and hihatsu. The 9000 carries fermented black garlic, black vinegar moromi and red wine resveratrol, which the 18000 does not, and it is vegetarian-compatible on its ingredient list.
