What this is. The Feather Popular: a butterfly double-edge safety razor. The head opens like a pair of doors when you turn the end of the handle, you drop a flat blade in, and closing it clamps and centres the blade. One blade, two cutting edges, four sides of use if you flip it. The body is metal, the handle plastic. This is the traditional design — a single edge against the skin at a fixed angle, no lubricating strip, no pivoting head.
Which Feather system this belongs to. We stock two Feather razor systems and they take completely different blades. This product is part of the double-edge family: a metal razor that takes a flat blade sharpened on both sides, the traditional design that predates cartridges. The other family is the F-System cartridge one — plastic holders with snap-on three-blade cartridges. The two are not interchangeable in either direction. Our older pages praised "Feather blades" on all five listings without saying which system each belonged to, which is exactly how the wrong one ends up in a basket.
A word about how sharp these are. Feather's double-edge blades are widely regarded as among the keenest on the market. That is a real advantage on coarse hair and a real hazard if your technique is still forming: with no pressure and a shallow angle they are superb, and with pressure they will nick. If you are moving to a double-edge razor for the first time, most people find it easier to learn on a milder blade and switch to these once the angle is habit.

How to Use
- Open the head by turning the end of the handle, drop in a fresh blade, and close it fully so the blade is clamped and centred.
- Soften the beard with warm water and lather properly — a double-edge razor is less forgiving of a dry patch than a cartridge.
- Rest the head on the skin so the guard bar touches first, then tip it until the blade engages. That is the angle; keep it.
- Shave with the grain in short strokes and let the weight of the razor do the work. Do not press.
- Rinse the head, dry it, and store the razor open or unloaded if you will not shave for a while.

There is no lubricating strip and nothing is applied to the skin by the razor itself — use your own shaving soap, cream or oil.
Cautions
- The blades are extremely sharp. Handle the cutting edge as you would a scalpel, and never test it with a finger.
- Keep razors and loose blades out of the reach of children.
- Do not shave over moles, warts, spots or broken skin.
- Rinse and dry the razor after use; a wet blade dulls faster and a wet bathroom shelf is the worst place to leave one.
- Dispose of used blades safely — in a blade bank, a sealed tin or the box the new ones came in. Do not put a loose blade in a household bin.
- Loose razor blades are restricted in cabin baggage in most countries. Pack them in checked luggage, and check your airline's rule before you fly.
- If a cut does not stop bleeding, or a shaved area becomes red, swollen or painful over the following days, see a doctor.
- Store away from direct sunlight, heat and damp. Steel keeps its edge best dry.

Will these blades fit my razor?
If your razor takes standard flat double-edge blades, yes — the format is a common one and these fit the great majority of double-edge razors, including the Feather Popular. They will not fit a cartridge holder such as the Samurai Edge or MR3 Neo.
How long does a blade last?
That depends on your beard, your water and your technique, which is why we no longer publish a number. Change it when it starts to tug instead of cut. A blade that pulls is doing the damage people blame on their skin.
Can I take it on a plane?
A razor with a cartridge fitted is generally accepted in cabin baggage; loose double-edge blades are generally not. Rules differ by country and airline, so check yours before you fly and put spare blades in checked luggage.
