It is built for skin that is genuinely dry — the kind that still feels tight after an emulsion — and for winter, or for a night step. If your skin is normal or oily, the Silky Emulsion is the sensible choice and this will feel like too much.

The texture is thick in the jar and softens against warm skin, which is what makes a cream this rich spreadable at all. Mango seed butter provides the occlusive weight; the silicones give it the slip that keeps it from dragging.

AGTHEORY is built around what AXXZIA calls the Toka Complex (糖花コンプレックス, "sugar-flower complex"): eleven plant ingredients led by Alpine Rose (Rhododendron ferrugineum) extract, horse chestnut seed extract and plantain seed extract. The name is a play on 糖化 (glycation), the sugar-and-protein reaction the whole series is positioned around, and the same eleven botanicals run through every product in the line.

How to Use

1. After toner, essence and emulsion, take a pearl-sized amount on a fingertip
2. Dot it at five points: forehead, both cheeks, nose and chin
3. Spread outward from the centre of the face with upward strokes
4. Press whatever remains into the neck
5. In the morning, allow five to ten minutes before sunscreen and foundation

Frequency: Evening as the last step; mornings too if your skin is very dry

FAQ

Can I wear it under makeup?

It is better suited to the evening. If you do use it in the morning, apply a small amount and give it five to ten minutes before sunscreen and foundation — rushing a silicone-rich cream under makeup is how you get pilling.

Emulsion or cream, or both?

Both, if your skin is very dry: the Silky Emulsion first as the lighter base, then this on top to seal. In summer, or on normal skin, the emulsion alone is usually enough and this will feel heavy.

Does it contain silicones?

Yes, substantially. Dimethicone is the second ingredient, and caprylyl methicone and two silicone emulsifiers follow. That is what gives the cream its slip and its finish. If you prefer to avoid silicones, look through our Japanese face creams for an alternative.

Is 30 g enough to be worth it?

At a pearl-sized amount once a day, expect roughly two to three months. It is the most expensive per gram in the line, and worth buying only if a lighter moisturiser has already proved insufficient for your skin.
